While Peter and John were still speaking to the people, the Chief Priest, with the Officer in charge at the Temple and the Sadducees, came up to them,

and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest,

After they were released, they went to their own people and reported everything the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him -- being the sect of the Sadducees -- were filled with zeal,

I actually did this in Jerusalem, and I locked up many of the saints in prison, since I had received authority for that from the chief priests. When they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.
