No man having lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light. The eye is the lamp of the body: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body is full of light, but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore, left the light that is in thee be darkness. read more.
If then thy whole body be full of light, not having any part dark, the whole shall be as full of light, as when a lamp enlightens thee with its bright shining. And as he spake, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. And he went in and sat down to table. But the Pharisee seeing it, marvelled, that he had not first washed before dinner. And the Lord said to him, Now ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the dish; but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness. Ye unthinking men, did not he that made the outside, make the inside also? But give what is in them in alms, and behold all things are clean to you. But wo to you, Pharisees; for ye tythe mint and rue and all herbs; and pass by justice and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Wo to you, Pharisees; for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the markets. Wo to you; for ye are as graves which appear not, and men that walk over them are not aware. And one of the lawyers answering said to him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. And he said, Wo to you lawyers also; for ye load men with burthens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burthens with one of your fingers. Wo to you; for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets; whom your fathers killed. Truly ye bear witness that ye approve the deeds of your fathers: for whom they killed, ye build their sepulchres. Therefore also the wisdom of God hath said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will slay, and persecute the rest. So that the blood of all the prophets shed from the foundation of the world, shall be required of this generation. From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was destroyed between the temple and the altar: verily I say to you, it shall be required of this generation. Woe to you, lawyers; for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye have not entered in yourselves; and them that were entering in, ye have hindered. And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fiercely to fasten upon him, and to urge him to speak of many things, Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

Jesus saith to them, If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man who hath told you the truth which I have heard from God. Abraham did not thus. Ye do the deeds of your father. They said to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said to them, If God were your father, ye would love me; for I proceeded forth, and come from God. I am come not of myself, but He hath sent me. Why do ye not understand my discourse? Even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and your will is, to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth; for there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. But because I speak the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convicteth me of sin? And if I speak the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God, heareth God's words; ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. Then answered the Jews and said to him, Say we not well, That thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me. I seek not my own glory; there is one that seeketh it and judgeth. Verily, verily I say unto you, if a man keep my word, he shall never see death. Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead and the prophets; yet thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? The prophets also are dead. Whom makest thou thyself? Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me, of whom ye say, He is our God. Yet ye have not known him: but I know him. And if I should say, I know him not, I should be a liar like you; but I know him, and keep his word. Your father Abraham longed to see my day; and he saw it and was glad. Then said the Jews to him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, Verily, verily I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him; but Jesus concealed himself, and went out of the temple, going thro' the midst of them, and so passed on.

Are ye also willing to be his disciples? Then they reviled him and said, Thou art a disciple of that fellow; but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God spake to Moses; but we know not this fellow, whence he is. The man answered and said to them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not whence he is; altho' he hath opened my eyes! read more.
We know that God heareth not sinners; but if a man be a worshiper of God, and do his will, him he heareth. Since the world began it was not heard, that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. They answered and said to him, Thou-wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath appointed ruler over his houshold, to give them food in due season? Happy is that servant, whom his Lord coming shall find so doing. Verily I say to you, he will make him ruler over all his goods. read more.
But if that evil servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming: And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken: The Lord of that servant shall come in a day that he expecteth him not, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping, and gnashing of teeth.

Let your loins be girt, and your lamps burning, And be like men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding, that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately. Happy are those servants, whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching; verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to table, and will come forth and serve them. read more.
And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, happy are those servants. And this ye know, that if the master of the house had known, what hour the thief would have come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broke open. Therefore be ye also ready; for the Son of man cometh in an hour when ye think not. Then Peter said to him, Lord, speakest thou this parable to us, or also to all? And the Lord said, Who is that faithful and wise steward, whom his Lord shall make ruler over his housoold, to give the allowance of food in due season? Happy is that servant, whom his Lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing. Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he hath. But if that servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to beat the men servants and maidens, and to eat, and drink, and be drunken: The Lord of that servant will come in a day when he expecteth not, and at an hour when he knoweth not, and will cut him in sunder, and appoint him his portion with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his Lord's will, and prepared not, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For to whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required; and to whom they have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

But which of you having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say to him as soon as he cometh from the field, Come and sit down to table? And will not rather say to him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him?

Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are whom ye obey? Whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were the servants of sin, ye have now obeyed from the heart the form of doctrine into which ye have been delivered. Being then set free from sin, ye are become the servants of righteousness. read more.
I speak as a man, because of the weakness of your flesh. As ye have presented your members servants to uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity, so now present your members servants of righteousness, unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then from those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou canst be made free, use it rather. For he that is called by the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman; and in like manner, he that is called being free, is the servant of Christ. Ye are bought with a price; do not become the servants of men.
