But which of you having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say to him as soon as he cometh from the field, Come and sit down to table? And will not rather say to him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him?read more.
I think not. So likewise ye, when ye have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are but unprofitable servants: we have done what was our duty to do.

But I would have you know, that the head of the woman is the man, and the head of every man is Christ, and the head of Christ is God.

But a certain Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in honour by all the people, rising up in the council, ordered, to put the apostles out a little space:

Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples, saying, The scribes and Pharisees sit in the chair of Moses: All things therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, observe and do;

And Paul earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God till this day. And Ananias the high priest commanded them that stood by, to smite him on the mouth. Then said Paul to him, God is about to smite thee, thou whited wall. For sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?read more.
But they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? Then said Paul, I was not aware, brethren, that it was the high priest; for it is written, Thou shalt not revile the ruler of thy people.

But all their works they do, to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and inlarge the fringes of their garments. And love the uppermost places at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And salutations in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

And he said to them in his teaching, Beware of the Scribes, who love to go in long sobes, and to be saluted in the market-places, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost places at feasts: Who devour widows houses, and for a pretence make long prayers:

Then in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief places at feasts,

Therefore when thou dost alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

And coming to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, He is worthy for whom thou shouldest do this. For he loveth our nation, and hath himself built us a synagogue.

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in fine apparel, and there come in also a poor man in dirty raiment, And ye look upon him that weareth the fine apparel, and say to him, Sit thou here in a good place, and say to the poor man,read more.
Stand thou there, or, Sit thou here under my footstool, Ye distinguish not in yourselves, but are become evil-reasoning judges.

And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples, Why eateth your master with publicans and sinners?

And the scribes and Pharisees seeing him eat with publicans and sinners, said to his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? And Jesus hearing it saith to them-

But the scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

Then drew near to him all the publicans and sinners, to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured saying, This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed thus, God I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

And as they were going from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And behold two blind men sitting by the way-side, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And the multitude charged them to hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

And they come to Jericho. And as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimeus, the son of Timeus, sat by the way-side begging. And when he heard, It is Jesus of Nazareth, he cried out and said, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him to hold his peace; but he cried so much the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

And while he was yet nigh to Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging. And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked, what it meant? And they told him, Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.read more.
And he cried aloud saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. And they that went before charged him to hold his peace; but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten lepers, who stood afar off: And they lifted up their voice and said, Jesus, master, have mercy on us.

And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores;

saying, Happy are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted. Happy are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.read more.
Happy are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be satisfied.

And lifting up his eyes on his disciples, he said, Happy are ye poor: for your's is the kingdom of God. Happy are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied: happy are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh.

Then were brought to him little children, that he should lay his hands on them and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them and departed thence.

And they brought little children to him that he might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those that brought them. But Jesus seeing it was much displeased and said to them, Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.read more.
And taking them up in his arms, he put his hands upon them and blessed them.

And they brought to him infants also, that he might touch them; but the disciples seeing it, rebuked them. But Jesus calling them to him, said, Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein.

And behold one came and said to him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith to him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder: thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not steal; thou shalt not bear false witness;read more.
Honour thy father and mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith to him, All these things have I kept from my childhood: what lack I yet? Jesus saith to him, If thou desirest to be perfect, go, sell what thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. But the young man, hearing that saying, went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus to his disciples, Verily I say to you, a rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go thro' the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. His disciples hearing it, were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Oesus looking upon them, said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Then answered Peter and said to him, Behold we have forsaken all, and followed thee. What shall we have therefore? Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, that ye who have followed me, in the renovation, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my names sake, shall receive an hundred fold, and inherit everlasting life. But many first shall be last, and the last shall be first.

And as he was going out into the way, one running and kneeling to him, asked him, Good Master, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life? But Jesus saith to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.read more.
And he answering said to him, Master, all these have I kept from my childhood. Then Jesus looking upon him, loved him, and said to him, One thing thou lackest: Go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me, taking up thy cross. But he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved; for he had great possessions. And Jesus looking round said to his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God? And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answering again saith to them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches, to enter into the kingdom of God? It is easier for a camel to go thro' the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying to each other, Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them said, With men it is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible. And Peter said to him, Lo, we have left all and followed thee. And Jesus answering said, Verily I say to you, there is none that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my sake and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundred fold now in this time, houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions, and in the world to come eternal life. And a certain ruler asked him saying, Good master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good save one, that is God. Jesus hearing these things said to him, Yet lackest thou one thing: Sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful; for he was very rich. And Jesus seeing that he was very sorrowful, said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God? It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things impossible with men, are possible with God. Then Peter said, Lo we have left all and followed thee. And he said to them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in the present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

He hath put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things, but sent the rich empty away.

There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted splendidly every day. And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores; and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table: yea, the dogs also came and licked his sores.read more.
And the beggar died and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died and was buried: And in hell lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember, that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And besides all this, between us and you, there is a great gulph fixed; so that they who would pass from us to you, cannot, neither can they pass to us that would come from thence.

Behold your calling brethren: that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world, to shame the wise, and the weak things of the world, to shame the things that are mighty: And the base things of the world, and things that are despised, hath God chosen; yea, things that are not, to bring to nought the things that are; That no flesh may glory before him.read more.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who is made by God unto us wisdom,

At that time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus calling to him a little child, set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say to you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.read more.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.

And he came to Capernaum. And being in the house, he asked them, What was it ye disputed among yourselves by the way? But they held their peace; for they had been debating among themselves in the way, Who should be greatest? And sitting down, he called the twelve and saith to them, If any man desire to be first, let him be the last of all, and the servant of all.read more.
And taking a little child, he set him in the midst of them, and embracing him he said to them, Whosoever shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not only me, but him that sent me.

And there arose a reasoning among them, which of them was the greatest? And Jesus seeing the thought of their heart, took a little child, and sat him by him, And said to them, whosoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshiping him and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said to her, What wilt thou? She saith to him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right-hand, and the other on thy left in thy kingdom. But Jesus answering said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I am about to drink of, or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say to him, We are able.read more.
And he saith to them, Ye shall indeed drink of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right-hand and on my left is not mine to give, save to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. And the ten hearing it, were moved with indignation against the two brethren. But Jesus calling them to him said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. It shall not be so among you; but whosoever desireth to be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever desireth to be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.

And James and John the sons of Zebedee come to him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us what we shall ask. And he said to them, What would ye that I should do for you? They said to him, Grant us to sit one on thy right-hand, and one on thy left-hand in thy glory.read more.
But Jesus said to them, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? And they said to him, We can. For the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.

And he spake a parable to them that were invited, when he marked how they chose the chief seats, saying to them, When thou art invited by any man to a marriage-feast, sit not down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited by him, And he that invited thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place. And then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art invited,read more.
go and sit down in the lowest place, that when he who invited thee cometh, he may say, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour in the presence of them that sit at table with thee. For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

So after he had washed their feet, he took his garments, and sitting down again, said to them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye ought also to wash one another's feet.read more.
For I have given you an example, that ye also may do as I have done to you.

Do nothing through strife or vain-glory, but in lowliness of mind, esteem each the others better than themselves. Look not every one at his own things, but every one also at the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

For he that is called by the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman; and in like manner, he that is called being free, is the servant of Christ.

Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord. And as the woman was of the man, so also the man is by the woman; but all things are of God.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
