Jesus answered: Truly I tell you unless a person is born again (brought forth from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God.

not by works done in righteousness, which we did, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration (restoration) (spiritual rebirth) and renewing (renovation) of the Holy Spirit.

This was a symbol pointing to baptism, which now saves you. It is not the washing off of bodily dirt, but the promise made to God for a good conscience. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Using his own will, he gave us birth through the word of truth. This way we would be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. They are foolishness to him! He cannot know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

You have purified your hearts by obeying the truth. You have genuine affection for the brothers and sisters. So always love one another intensely (extremely) (deeply) from the heart. You have been given a new birth, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and endures. All people are like grass. But the word of our God abides forever. This is the word of good tidings that was preached to you.

He gave the right to become children of God to all who received him. Even to those who believe in his name.

You have been buried with him in baptism. You were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

But you are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God's Spirit dwells in you. If any one does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to him.

They were born from God. It was not from blood, or the will of the flesh, or the will of man.

You were also circumcised in him with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ.
