And at the same time they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but gossips also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
But shun profane and vain utterances: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
Also take not to heart all words that are spoken; lest you hear your servant curse you:
Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases.
A talebearer reveals secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.
He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets: therefore associate not with him who flatters with his lips.
Debate your cause with your neighbor himself; and disclose not a secret to another:
The words of a talebearer are like tasty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
He that covers over a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates close friends.
He that backbites not with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor.
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found unto you such as you desire not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, conceit, tumults:
A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
A wicked doer gives heed to false lips; and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
Even so must their wives be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
You shall not go up and down as a talebearer among your people: neither shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD.
Therefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking,
Curse not the king, no not even in your thought; and curse not the rich in your bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter.
And their word will eat as does a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
You shall not raise a false report: put not your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
The north wind brings forth rain: so does a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
And if he comes to see me, he speaks vanity: his heart gathers iniquity to itself; when he goes abroad, he tells it.
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.
An ungodly man digs up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
For there must be also heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you.
Therefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that you might be a possession unto the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers, and are slandered by the people:
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
