Therefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking,
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, especially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who ruin whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain.
If any man among you seems to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.read more.
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, Who shall see them?
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.
The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
A soft answer turns away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. The words of a talebearer are tasty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.read more.
