For we that have believed, do enter into the rest; as he said, I have sworn in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest, though the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he saith thus in a certain place, of the seventh day, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works: And in this again, They shall not enter into my rest.
For if Joshua had given them the rest, he would not have afterward spoken of another day.
And I heard a voice out of heaven, saying to me, Write: From henceforth happy are the dead who die in the Lord: Yea (saith the Spirit) that they may rest from their labours. Their works follow them.
And Jesus said to him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, ye may be also.
For I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, for it is far better.
Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we be ever with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Yet thou hast a few names in Sardis, who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: they are worthy.
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that sitteth upon the throne shall have his tent over them.
We behave undauntedly, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and present with the Lord.
His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things: I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
And they shall come from the east and the west, and the north and the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of water: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
And he shewed me a river of the water of life clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river is the tree of life, bearing twelve sorts of fruits, yielding its fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
Seeing it is a righteous thing with God, to recompence affliction to them that afflict you. And to you that are afflicted rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels,
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, thou Holy One and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell upon the earth? And there was given to them, to every one, a white robe; and it was said to them, that they should rest yet for a time, till their fellow servants also and their brethren should be fulfilled, who should be killed even as they were.
And he said to me, These are they who come out of great affliction, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entring into his rest, any of us should altogether come short of it. For unto us hath the gospel been preached as well as unto them; but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixt with faith in those that heard it. Seeing then it remaineth that some enter into it, and they to whom the gospel was preached before, entered not in because of unbelief, He again, after so long a time, fixeth a certain day, saying by David, To-day; as it was said before, To day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Joshua had given them the rest, he would not have afterward spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God. For he that hath entered into his rest, hath himself also ceased from his works, as God did from his. Let us labour, therefore, to enter into that rest, lest any one should fall, after the same example of unbelief.
And he shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall sorrow, or crying, or pain, be any more; because the former things are gone away.
For neither can they die any more; for they are equal to angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
And not only they, but even we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power.
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of water: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
And there shall be no more curse; but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall worship him,
Let us labour, therefore, to enter into that rest, lest any one should fall, after the same example of unbelief.
