His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs; they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, they love to slumber.
But know this that if the husband of the house knew in what watch the thief would come, he would watch and would not suffer his house to be broken into. Therefore be ye also ready; the Son of man is to come in the hour that ye think not.
And know this: that if the husband of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man comes at an hour when ye think not.
Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Lord of the house comes: at evening or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning, lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
And when they did not agree among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken this word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and not perceive; for the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and should be converted and I should heal them.
Then he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand; and see indeed, but do not perceive. Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.
Yea, thou shalt be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea or as he that sleeps at the rudder. They have stricken me, thou shalt say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not; when I shall awake, I will seek it yet again.
(according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day.
For the LORD has extended upon you the spirit of deep sleep and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, he has covered the seers with sleep.
And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed. The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light.

Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches and keeps his garments lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
But of that day and that hour no one knows, no, not even the angels who are in the heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time shall be. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.
Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,
so we will not go back from thee. Thou shalt quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine.
Arise, O LORD, in thine anger; lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake the judgment in my favour that thou hast commanded.
