He esteems iron as straw and bronze as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee; with him, slingstones are turned into stubble. He counts any weapon as stubble; he laughs at the shaking of a spear. Broken clay vessels are under him; he carves his imprint upon the mire. He makes the deep to boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. He makes the path shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. Upon earth there is not his like, who behaves without fear. He despises all exalted things; he is king over all the sons of pride.

In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them.
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who was planted beside the way.
