Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building others up according to the need of the moment, that it may impart grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
And there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather let there be thanksgiving.
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but give a blessing instead; for to this you were called, that you may inherit a blessing. For, "He who would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
So he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. They also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, he commanded that these also should be set before them.
rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with thanksgiving.
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his mouth and so is saved.
"Therefore whoever acknowledges me before men, him I will also acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.
"I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
Let your speech always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.
but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect;
when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.
And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome, but he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into him, who is the head, into Christ,
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger,
Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.
