For those whom the Lord loves he disciplines, and he scourges every son whom he receives."
For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are unseen are eternal.
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.

And to keep me from being too elated because of the abundance of revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should depart from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.read more.
That is why, for Christ's sake, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
I warned those who sinned in the past and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present the second time, that if I come again I will not spare them
Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this present age,
It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: a man has his father's wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to have mourned? Let the one who has done this be removed from your midst. In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also may be fearful of sinning.
Sufficient for such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority,
Brethren, even if anyone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
But if he will not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that 'every matter may be established by the word of two or three witnesses.'
Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.
But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
If you are left without discipline, in which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
Besides this, we have had fathers of our flesh to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
