'Righteousness' in the Bible

Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

For I have chosen him, so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.”

It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.

“Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you.

It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out before you, in order to confirm the oath which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

“Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.

When the sun goes down you shall surely return the pledge to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.

The Lord will repay each man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I refused to stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed.

So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered justice and righteousness for all his people.

“The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness;According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.

then hear in heaven and act and judge Your servants, condemning the wicked by bringing his way on his own head and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

Blessed be the Lord your God who delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel; because the Lord loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.”

The strength of the King loves justice;You have established equity;You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

But the lovingkindness of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him,And His righteousness to children’s children,

How blessed are those who keep justice,Who practice righteousness at all times!

And it was reckoned to him for righteousness,To all generations forever.

Splendid and majestic is His work,And His righteousness endures forever.

Wealth and riches are in his house,And his righteousness endures forever.

He has given freely to the poor,His righteousness endures forever;His horn will be exalted in honor.

Open to me the gates of righteousness;I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the Lord.

Behold, I long for Your precepts;Revive me through Your righteousness.

Ayin.I have done justice and righteousness;Do not leave me to my oppressors.

You have commanded Your testimonies in righteousnessAnd exceeding faithfulness.

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,And Your law is truth.

Let my tongue sing of Your word,For all Your commandments are righteousness.

Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness,And let Your godly ones sing for joy.

A Psalm of David.Hear my prayer, O Lord,Give ear to my supplications!Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!

For the sake of Your name, O Lord, revive me.In Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodnessAnd will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

To receive instruction in wise behavior,Righteousness, justice and equity;

Then you will discern righteousness and justiceAnd equity and every good course.

“All the utterances of my mouth are in righteousness;There is nothing crooked or perverted in them.

“Riches and honor are with me,Enduring wealth and righteousness.

“I walk in the way of righteousness,In the midst of the paths of justice,

Ill-gotten gains do not profit,But righteousness delivers from death.

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,But righteousness delivers from death.

The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way,But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
