'Light' in the Bible
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.
God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.
As soon as it was light, the men were sent away, they with their donkeys.
They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.
The Lord was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.
So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.
Then you shall make its lamps seven in number; and they shall mount its lamps so as to shed light on the space in front of it.
“You shall charge the sons of Israel, that they bring you clear oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.
the lampstand also for the light and its utensils and its lamps and the oil for the light;
and the spice and the oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense.
the pure gold lampstand, with its arrangement of lamps and all its utensils, and the oil for the light;
“Command the sons of Israel that they bring to you clear oil from beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.
Then they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand for the light, along with its lamps and its snuffers, and its trays and all its oil vessels, by which they serve it;
“The responsibility of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light and the fragrant incense and the continual grain offering and the anointing oil—the responsibility of all the tabernacle and of all that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.”
“Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you mount the lamps, the seven lamps will give light in the front of the lampstand.’”
When it was told to the Gazites, saying, “Samson has come here,” they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. And they kept silent all night, saying, “Let us wait until the morning light, then we will kill him.”
Then Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them.” And they said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” So the priest said, “Let us draw near to God here.”
Nevertheless, as the Lord God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from harming you, unless you had come quickly to meet me, surely there would not have been left to Nabal until the morning light as much as one male.”
Then Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk; so she did not tell him anything at all until the morning light.
Now then arise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you, and as soon as you have arisen early in the morning and have light, depart.”
Is as the light of the morning when the sun rises,A morning without clouds,When the tender grass springs out of the earth,Through sunshine after rain.’
Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent; if we wait until morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king’s household.”
Every morning and evening they burn to the Lord burnt offerings and fragrant incense, and the showbread is set on the clean table, and the golden lampstand with its lamps is ready to light every evening; for we keep the charge of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken Him.
“And with a pillar of cloud You led them by day,And with a pillar of fire by nightTo light for them the wayIn which they were to go.
You, in Your great compassion,Did not forsake them in the wilderness;The pillar of cloud did not leave them by day,To guide them on their way,Nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.
For the Jews there was light and gladness and joy and honor.
“May that day be darkness;Let not God above care for it,Nor light shine on it.
“Let the stars of its twilight be darkened;Let it wait for light but have none,And let it not see the breaking dawn;
“Or like a miscarriage which is discarded, I would not be,As infants that never saw light.
“Why is light given to him who suffers,And life to the bitter of soul,
“Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden,And whom God has hedged in?
“He reveals mysteries from the darknessAnd brings the deep darkness into light.
“They grope in darkness with no light,And He makes them stagger like a drunken man.
“They make night into day, saying,‘The light is near,’ in the presence of darkness.
“Indeed, the light of the wicked goes out,And the flame of his fire gives no light.
“The light in his tent is darkened,And his lamp goes out above him.
“He is driven from light into darkness,And chased from the inhabited world.
“You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you;And light will shine on your ways.
“Others have been with those who rebel against the light;They do not want to know its waysNor abide in its paths.
“In the dark they dig into houses,They shut themselves up by day;They do not know the light.
“Is there any number to His troops?And upon whom does His light not rise?
“He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the watersAt the boundary of light and darkness.
“He dams up the streams from flowing,And what is hidden he brings out to the light.
When His lamp shone over my head,And by His light I walked through darkness;
“I smiled on them when they did not believe,And the light of my face they did not cast down.
“When I expected good, then evil came;When I waited for light, then darkness came.
‘He has redeemed my soul from going to the pit,And my life shall see the light.’
To bring back his soul from the pit,That he may be enlightened with the light of life.
“Now men do not see the light which is bright in the skies;But the wind has passed and cleared them.
“From the wicked their light is withheld,And the uplifted arm is broken.
“Where is the way to the dwelling of light?And darkness, where is its place,
“Where is the way that the light is divided,Or the east wind scattered on the earth?
“His sneezes flash forth light,And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?”Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord!
For You light my lamp;The Lord my God illumines my darkness.
A Psalm of David.The Lord is my light and my salvation;Whom shall I fear?The Lord is the defense of my life;Whom shall I dread?
For with You is the fountain of life;In Your light we see light.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the lightAnd your judgment as the noonday.
My heart throbs, my strength fails me;And the light of my eyes, even that has gone from me.
O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me;Let them bring me to Your holy hillAnd to Your dwelling places.
For by their own sword they did not possess the land,And their own arm did not save them,But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence,For You favored them.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers;They will never see the light.
For You have delivered my soul from death,Indeed my feet from stumbling,So that I may walk before GodIn the light of the living.

Then He led them with the cloud by dayAnd all the night with a light of fire.
How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
You have placed our iniquities before You,Our secret sins in the light of Your presence.
Light is sown like seed for the righteousAnd gladness for the upright in heart.
Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak,Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
Light arises in the darkness for the upright;He is gracious and compassionate and righteous.
The Lord is God, and He has given us light;Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
Nun.Your word is a lamp to my feetAnd a light to my path.
The unfolding of Your words gives light;It gives understanding to the simple.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,And the light around me will be night,”
Even the darkness is not dark to You,And the night is as bright as the day.Darkness and light are alike to You.
Praise Him, sun and moon;Praise Him, all stars of light!
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light;And reproofs for discipline are the way of life
The light of the righteous rejoices,But the lamp of the wicked goes out.
In the light of a king’s face is life,And his favor is like a cloud with the spring rain.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:The Lord gives light to the eyes of both.

For the stars of heaven and their constellationsWill not flash forth their light;The sun will be dark when it risesAnd the moon will not shed its light.
The light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day the Lord binds up the fracture of His people and heals the bruise He has inflicted.
“I am the Lord, I have called You in righteousness,I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You,And I will appoint You as a covenant to the people,As a light to the nations,
“I will lead the blind by a way they do not know,In paths they do not know I will guide them.I will make darkness into light before themAnd rugged places into plains.These are the things I will do,And I will not leave them undone.”
The One forming light and creating darkness,Causing well-being and creating calamity;I am the Lord who does all these.
He says, “It is too small a thing that You should be My ServantTo raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel;I will also make You a light of the nationsSo that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
