And as He went along, He saw Levi the son of Alpheus, sitting at the receit of custom, and saith unto him, Follow me: and he rose up and followed Him.
After these things He went out and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the custom-house, and said to him, Follow me:
Jesus replied, If thou wouldst be perfect, go, sell thy estate, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that, he went away sorrowful; for he had large possessions.
The day following Jesus had a mind to go out into Galilee, and meeting with Philip, saith unto him, Follow me.
This He said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had said this, He saith unto him, Follow me.
And may the God of patience and consolation grant you the like mutual affection to each other, according to the example of Christ Jesus:
I mean, that each of you saith, as if of different parties, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, I of Cephas, and I of Christ.
He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
so he turned and said to them, If any man come to me, and does not comparatively hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and follow me, cannot be my disciple.
Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any one is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me:
And calling the people and his disciples to Him, He said unto them, Whosoever is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me:
And He said unto them all, if any one is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me:
So he, that loveth his life, shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, shall preserve it unto life eternal. If any man would serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: and if any one serve me, him will my Father honour.
He that would save his life shall lose it; and he, that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.
for he that would save his life, shall lose it; but he that would lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, shall save it.
Jesus replied, If thou wouldst be perfect, go, sell thy estate, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.
Then Jesus looked upon him with affection, and said to him, One thing thou wantest; go, sell all that thou hast, and give it to the poor; and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross and follow me.
But when Jesus heard these things He said unto him, Thou yet wantest one thing, Sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
For who of you that hath a mind to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expence, whether he hath wherewithal to perfect it? least having laid a foundation and not being able to finish, all that see it, should deride him, saying, this man began to build and was not able to finish.read more.
Or what king, going to engage with another king in battle, doth not sit down first and consult, whether he be able with ten thousand men to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? and if not, while he is yet far off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace. So, every one of you, that doth not give up all that he hath, cannot be my disciple.
For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps.
And He said to another, Follow me: but he said, Lord, permit me to go first and bury my father:
And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee, but allow me first to go and take my leave of my family.
And a great multitude followed Him, because they saw his miracles which He performed on them that were diseased.
and He called them also; and they immediately left the ship, and their father, and followed Him.
and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the men he had hired, and went along with Him.
Now Andrew the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two that heard what John said, and thereupon followed Jesus.
There were however many of the chief rulers that believed on Him; but because of the pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be excommunicated.
Now there was a man of the pharisees, whose name was Nicodemus, a ruler among the Jews: who came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for none can do these miracles which thou dost, unless God be with him.
He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest my self to him.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed the gospel, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence; be still working out your own salvation though with fear and trembling:
Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples.
If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father,
Be ye then imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.
Servants, obey them that are your masters according to the flesh, with reverential fear, in the simplicity of your heart, as unto Christ: not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
and whatsoever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He hath given us a charge to do. And he, that keepeth his commandments, abideth in Him, and He in him: and hereby we know that He abideth in us, even by the Spirit which He hath given us.
These are they who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins: these are they who follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth: these were redeemed from among men, as the first-fruits unto God and the Lamb.
