And Joseph also ascended from Galilee, out of a city called Nazareth, into Jewry: unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and lineage of David: to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, which was with child. And she brought forth her first begotten son. And wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them within, in the inn.

But the angel said unto them, "Be not afraid: For behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, that shall come to all the people: for unto you is born this day in the city of David a saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And take this for a sign: ye shall find the child swaddled, and laid in a manger."

While he thus thought, Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: For that which is conceived in her is of the holy ghost. She shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus: For he shall save his people from their sins."

And the angel said unto her, "Fear not Mary, for thou hast found grace with God. Lo: thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the son of the highest. And the Lord God shall give unto him the seat of his father David:read more.
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom shall be none end." Then said Mary unto the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" And the angel answered, and said unto her, "The holy ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee. Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born, shall be called the son of God.

And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw the glory of it, as the glory of the only begotten son of the father, which word was full of grace, and verity.

That was a true light, which lighteneth all men that come into the world.

For what the law could not do, inasmuch as it was weak because of the flesh - that performed God, and sent his son in the similitude of sinful flesh, and by sin damned sin in the flesh;

Ye know the liberality of our Lord Jesus Christ, which though he were rich, yet for your sakes became poor: that ye through his poverty might be made rich.

But when the time was full come, God sent his son - born of a woman, and made bond unto the law - to redeem them which were under the law: that we through election might receive the inheritance that belongeth unto the natural sons.

And without nay, great is that mystery of godliness. God was showed in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, was seen of angels, was preached unto the gentiles, was believed on in earth and received up in glory.

Forasmuch, then, as the children were partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part with them, for to put down through death him that had lordship over death: that is to say, the devil.

That which was from the beginning, declare we unto you; which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life. He put his sepulchre with the wicked, and with the rich in his death: because he did none iniquity, neither was guile found in his mouth.

for he hath made him to be sin for us, which knew no sin, that we by his means should be that righteousness which before God is allowed.

For we have not a high priest, which cannot have compassion on our infirmities: but was in all points tempted, as we are: but yet without sin.

Such a high priest it becometh us to have, which is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than heaven. Which needeth not daily - as yonder high priests - to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's sins. For that did he at once for all, when he offered up himself: For the law maketh men priests, which have infirmity: but the word of the oath that came since the law, maketh the son priest, which is perfect for evermore.

And ye know that he appeared to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him.

He humbled himself and became obedient unto the death, even the death of the cross.

Not only so, but we also joy in God by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have received the atonement.

I am come to send fire on earth: and what is my desire but that it were already kindled? Notwithstanding, I must be baptised with a baptism. And how am I pained till it be ended?

Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?"

I have glorified thee on the earth. I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

And early in the morning, the next day after the Sabbath day, they came unto the sepulchre when the sun was risen. And they said one to another, "Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?"read more.
And when they looked, they saw how the stone was rolled away. For it was a very great one, and they went into the sepulchre, and saw a young man, sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment, and they were abashed. And he said unto them, "Be not afraid. Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified. He is risen, he is not here. Behold the place, where they put him. But go your way, and tell his disciples, and namely Peter, that he will go before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you." And they went out quickly and fled from the sepulchre. For they trembled, and were amazed. Neither said they anything to any man, for they were afraid.

On the morrow after the Sabbath, early in the morning, they came unto the tomb and brought the odours which they had prepared, and other women with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre, and went in: but found not the body of the Lord Jesus.read more.

The morrow after the Sabbath day, first of Sabbaths, came Mary Magdalene early when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and saw the stone taken away from the tomb. Then she ran, and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb and we cannot tell where they have laid him." Peter went forth, and that other disciple, and came unto the sepulchre.read more.
They ran both together, and that other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooped down and saw the linen clothes lying, yet went he not in. Then came Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and saw the linen clothes lie, and the napkin that was about his head not lying with the linen cloth, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw and believed. For as yet they knew not the scriptures, that he should rise again from death.

Remember that Jesus Christ, being of the seed of David, rose again from death according to my gospel, wherein I suffer trouble as an evil doer, even unto bonds. But the word of God was not bound. Herefore I suffer all things, for the elects' sakes, that they might also obtain that salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also in vain.

Which was delivered for our sins, and rose again for to justify us.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that there may be abundance of grace? God forbid. How shall we that are dead, as touching sin, live any longer therein? Remember ye not, that all we which are baptised in the name of Christ Jesus, are baptised to die with him?read more.
We are buried with him by baptism for to die: That likewise as Christ was raised up from death by the glory of the father: even so we also should walk in a new life. For if we be graft in death like unto him: even so must we be in the resurrection. This we must remember, that our old man is crucified with him also, that the body of sin might utterly be destroyed; that henceforth we should not be servants of sin. For he that is dead, is justified from sin. Wherefore if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live with him: remembering that Christ, once raised from death, dieth no more. Death hath no more power over him. For as touching that he died, he died as concerning sin once. And as touching that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise, imagine ye also, that ye are dead concerning sin: but are alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin reign therefore in your mortal bodies, that ye should thereunto obey in the lusts of it. Neither give ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: But give yourselves unto God, as they that are alive from death. And give your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Let not sin have power over you. For ye are not under the law, but under grace.

For by a man came death, and by a man came resurrection of the dead.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up: and a cloud received him up out of their sight.

So then when the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received into heaven, and is set down on the righthand of God.

And he led them out into Bethany, and lift up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, as he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up into heaven.

In the former treatise, Dear friend Theophilus, I have written of all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day in the which he was taken up; after that he, through the holy ghost, had given commandments unto the apostles, which he had chosen:

Since now that he by the righthand of God exalted is, and hath received of the father the promise of the holy ghost, he hath shed forth that which ye now see and hear.

who then shall condemn? It is Christ which is dead; Yea rather which is risen again, which is also on the righthand of God and maketh intercession for us.

If ye be then risen again with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the righthand of God.

Which son, being the brightness of his glory, and very image of his substance, bearing up all things with the word of his power, hath in his own person purged our sins, and is sitten on the righthand of the majesty on high,

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, which for the joy that was set before him, abode the cross, and despised the shame, and is set down on the righthand of the throne of God.
