Your eyes are too pure to look at evil. You cannot look at perversity. Why do you look at treacherous persons and not act? Why do you keep quiet when the wicked destroy the man who is more righteous?
Yes I cry for Help! I am being attacked! But I get no response. I call for help, but there is no justice.
Why does the Almighty not keep time? Why do those who know him never see his days?
They lie in ambush for me right here! Fierce men attack me, O Jehovah, but not because of any disobedience. And not because any sin or any guilt on my part. They hurry to take positions against me. Wake up, and help me; see for yourself.
([Psalm of Asaph]) God, why have you rejected us forever? Why do you smoke with anger against the sheep of your pasture?
I am abandoned with the dead, like those who have been killed and lie in graves. I am like those whom you no longer remember, who are cut off from your hand (power) (care).
Now think about this: Which innocent person ever died an untimely death? Find me a decent person who has been destroyed.
His disciples asked him: Rabbi he was born blind. Who sinned, this man or his parents? Jesus answered: This man did not sin. Neither did his parents sin. The works of God should be made known in him.
But you say: Jehovah's way is unfair. Listen, nation of Israel, is my way fair? Is it your ways that are unfair?
His wife asked him: Are you still holding on to your principles? Curse God and die! He said to her: You are talking like a godless fool. We accept the good that God gives us. Should we not also accept the bad? Through all this Job did not speak sinful words.
But he is unchangeable and who can turn him? He does what he wants to do. He performs what is appointed for me. He is mindful of many such matters. Therefore, I would be dismayed at his presence. I stand in awe of him.
Will the person who finds fault with the Almighty correct him? Will the person who argues with God answer him?
I was envious of arrogant people when I saw the peace and prosperity that wicked people enjoy.
He said: I was born with nothing (naked), and I will die with nothing. Jehovah gave, and now he has taken away. Blessed be the name of Jehovah!
Of a truth, God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
How great is God! He is beyond our understanding! The number of his years is past finding out.
I am so insignificant. How can I answer you? I will put my hand over my mouth.
Do not fear those who kill the body. They are not able to take away your [everlasting] life. Instead, fear him who is able to destroy both life and body in the ever-burning fires. (Greek: Gehenna: continuously burning trash fires in the valley of Hinnom.)
Surely you would not do that! Would you slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked? Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
Throw your burden upon Jehovah and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken! But You, O God, will bring them down to the corruption of the grave. Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.
Time went by and the king of Egypt died. The Israelites still groaned because they were slaves. So they cried out, and their cries for help went up to God.
I will put my trust in you when I am afraid. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
But I will sing about your strength. In the morning I will joyfully sing about your loving-kindness. You have been my stronghold and a place of safety in times of trouble.
I will wait calmly for God alone, because my hope comes from him.
Let those who seek my life be confused and put to shame. Let those who want my downfall be turned back and disgraced.
Then they cried to Jehovah in their trouble. He delivered them out of their distress.
If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace. He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. If not you should know O king that we will not serve your gods. We will not worship the golden image that you set up!
The fig tree will not flourish. There will be no fruit on the vines. The labor of the olive will fail and the fields will yield no food! The flock will be cut off from the fold and there will be no herd in the stalls. Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah! I will find joy in the God of my salvation.
When he was reviled (insulted), he did not revile in return. When he suffered he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously.
Let them also that suffer according to the will of God commend themselves in well doing to a faithful Creator.
Throw all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you.
God remembers those who suffer. He does not forget their cry, and he punishes those who wrong them.
God saw the Israelites being oppressed and was concerned about them.
Jehovah saw the bitter affliction of Israel. There was no one left, bond or free. There was no help for Israel.
Jehovah knows (is fully aware of) the way of the righteous. But the way of the wicked will perish.
Remember, the eye of Jehovah is on those who respect him, on those who hope for his loving-kindness. It is on those who deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Behold, the wages of the laborers who harvested your fields, which are held back by you, cry out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of Jehovah of Hosts.
Jehovah tests (examines) righteous and wicked people alike. He hates wicked people and the ones who love violence.
Prophesy about Israel and tell the mountains and hills and the ravines and valleys: 'This is what the Lord Jehovah says: I am speaking in my anger and fury because you have been insulted by the nations. This is what the Lord Jehovah says: 'I raise my hand and swear that the nations that surround you will be insulted.
He who receives a dishonest profit for his house will have trouble. He may set his nest on high in order to be delivered from the hand of evil!
After Job had prayed for his friends, Jehovah made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before. All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble Jehovah allowed to come upon him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. Jehovah blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.
They will hunger no more, nor thirst any more; neither shall the sunlight beat down on them, nor any heat.
God will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death. There will be no more sorrow nor crying. There will be no more pain! The former things have passed away.
I will approach you people for judgment! I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, the adulterers and those acting fraudulently with the wages of the worker, the widow and the fatherless. I will be a speedy witness against those who swear falsely and take advantage of the stranger, and do not show me reverence, said Jehovah of Hosts.
I know that the king of Egypt will not permit you to go, except under compulsion. So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders that I will do in it's midst. After that he will let you go.
When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me. I understood their end when I went into the sanctuary of God. Surely you set them in slippery places. You threw them down into destruction.
I will not hold back punishment, said Jehovah, For the many transgressions of Damascus. This is because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.
You are filled with shame and not glory. You drink also as one who is uncircumcised. The cup of Jehovah's right (strong) hand will come around to you. Intense shame will tarnish your glory.
Then he will tell those on his left: 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the ever-burning fire that is prepared for the Devil and his [fallen] angels. I was hungry and you did not feed me. I was thirsty and you did not give me drink. I was a stranger and you did not take me in. I was naked and you did not dress me. I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'read more.
They will also ask: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in prison and not minister to you?' The King will answer: 'To the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of my brothers, you did not do it to me.' These will go away into ever-burning fire (everlasting cutting off) (death) (total destruction) (doom) (punishment) (everlasting penalty), but the righteous to everlasting life.'
For judgment is without mercy to him who shows no mercy. And mercy triumphs over judgment.
If the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinners appear?
Render to her even as she rendered to you. Pay back double to her, double according to her works: in the cup that she has filled, fill double for her! To the extent she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to that extent give her much torment and sorrow. She says in her heart: 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and I shall see no sorrow.'
