He saith to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.
And when they were come to him, he said to them, Ye know in what manner I have conversed among you, all the time from the first day I came into Asia, Serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and trials which befell me through the ambushes of the Jews: And that I have with-held nothing which was profitable, but have preached to you, and taught you, publickly and from house to house:
I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. For if ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for I have begotten you in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Night and day praying exceedingly, that we may see your face, and perfect that which is wanting in your faith.
as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
The elders that are among you I exhort, who am a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and likewise a partaker of the glory which shall be revealed, Feed the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it not by constraint, but willingly, not for filthy gain, but of a ready mind, Neither as lording over the heritage, but being examples to the flock.
The young men likewise exhort to be discreet, In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, in doctrine, uncorruptness, seriousness, Sound speech that cannot be reproved;
I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. Yea, you yourselves know, that these hands have ministred to my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, that thus labouring ye ought to help the infirm, and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, which he himself said, It is happier to give than to receive.
I beseech you therefore, be ye followers of me. For this cause I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
Be ye followers of me, as I also am of Christ.
Which also ye have learned and received, and heard and seen in me; these do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also with power, and with the Holy Ghost, and with much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you, for your sake. And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the weak, be long suffering toward all men. See that none render to any man evil for evil, but ever follow that which is good, both to one another and to all men.
Him that is weak in the faith, receive; but not to doubtful disputations.
But take heed, lest by any means this your liberty become a stumbling-block to the weak. For if any one see thee, who hast knowledge, sitting at meat in an idol-temple, will not the conscience of him that is weak be encouraged to eat of the things sacrificed to the idol? And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died.read more.
But when ye sin thus against your brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in any fault, ye who are spiritual restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Wherefore comfort one another and edify one another, as also ye do.
That the aged women in like manner, be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things: That they instruct the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their chidren, Discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
and all evil-speakings, As new born babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye were not yet able to bear it: nor are ye now able.
Brethren, be not children in understanding: in wickedness be ye as infants, but in understanding be ye grown men.
Concerning whom we have many things to say, and hard to be explained, seeing ye are become dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again, which are the first principles of the oracles of God, and are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unexperienced in the word of righteousness; for he is a babe.read more.
But strong meat belongeth to them of full age, to them who have their senses exercised by habit to discern both good and evil.
But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity! Amen.
And we all with unveiled face, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image, from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because your faith groweth exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth.
