Him hath God exalted with his right hand as a prince and saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins: and we are his witnesses of what we declare; and so is the holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.

But when the comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, (even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father,) He shall testify of me. And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

But ye shall receive power from the holy Spirit coming upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

And I, when I came among you, brethren, came not with excellency of language, or of human wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God: for I did not think it meet to know any thing among you, but Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And my discourse, and my preaching was not with the persuasive words of human wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and of power; that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

And there was delivered to Him the book of the prophet Esaias; and opening the book, He found the place where it was written, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me to the end, for which He hath anointed me: He hath sent me to publish good tidings to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to release them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

And ye are witnesses of these things: and I will send upon you the promise of my Father; but do ye continue in the city of Jerusalem, till ye are endued with power from on high.

For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much certainty; as ye know what sort of persons we were among you for your sakes.

how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which began to be declared by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard Him; God also testifying together with them by signs, and wonders, and divers miracles, and gifts of the holy Spirit, according to his own will.

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more: but went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus; and as he passed along, he preached the gospel in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea.

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom doth the prophet say this? of himself, or of some other person? Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus.

And when they had passed through Phrygia and Galatia, being forbidden by the holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia, they came to Mysia, and endeavoured to go to Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

And they have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their life unto the death.

and having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: over all taking the shield of faith, whereby ye will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one: take also the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

And as they were bawling out, and throwing off their clothes, and casting up dust into the air, the tribune commanded him to be brought into the castle, and ordered him to be put to the question by scourging; that he might know for what reason they so cried out against him.read more.
And as they were binding him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, uncondemned?

and for me particularly, that utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth with freedom, to make known the mystery of the gospel: for which I am an ambassador though in chains: that I may speak boldly in behalf of it, as I ought to speak.

Praying at the same time for us also, that God would open to us a door of utterance, to declare the mystery of Christ, for which also I am in bonds: that I may make it manifest, as I ought. Behave yourselves wisely towards them that are without,

Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but bear thy part in the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God;

And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those that had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they maintained.

And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.

And ye shall be brought before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations: but when they take you up, be not sollicitous how, or what ye shall say; for ye shall be taught in that very instant what ye shall speak: for it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh by you.

But look to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils, and synagogues: and ye shall be scourged, and set before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony against them. But when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not anxiously careful beforehand what ye shall speak, neither premeditate: but whatever shall be suggested to you at that very time, this speak: for it is not you that speak, but the holy Spirit.

But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues, and prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake: but it shall be for a testimony to you. Fix it therefore in your hearts not to premeditate a defence: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom,read more.
which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor withstand.

But he being full of the holy Spirit looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God:

and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the public prison. But an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison by night, and having brought them out said,

And the Lord said to Paul by a vision in the night, "Fear not, but speak: and be not silent: for I am with thee, and no man shall lay hands on thee to hurt thee; for I have much people in this city."

And Saul was well pleased with his execution. For at that time there was a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all dispersed through the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. And some pious men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation for him. But Saul made havock of the church, entring into the houses, and dragging out men and women, committed them to prison.read more.
Now they that were dispersed went about preaching the word. And Philip coming to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them.

But I would have you know, my brethren, that the things, which have befallen me, have proved rather to the advancement of the gospel: so that my bonds are manifest in all the palace, and all other places, to be for the sake of Christ; and many of the brethren in the Lord, encouraged by my bonds, are much more bold to publish the word without fear.
