but how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that thus it must be? Then said Jesus to the multitudes, Ye are come out as against a thief with swords and clubs to take me, whereas I sat with you day after day teaching in the temple, and ye did not seize me: but all this is done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.

The Son of man is going indeed as it is written concerning Him: but wo to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed; it had been good for him, if that man had never been born.

And He said unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

And He said unto them, O people void of understanding and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Was not the Messiah to suffer these things, and so to enter into his glory? And beginning from Moses, and all the prophets, He explained to them in all the scriptures the things that were spoken concerning Himself.

I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen: but have done it that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lift up his heel against me.

But now, without the law, righteousness before God is manifested, being attested by the law and the prophets;

and prophesied, saying, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He hath visited and wrought redemption for his people, and hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, in the house of his servant David, as He spake by the mouth of his holy prophets from the beginning,

but thus hath God accomplished those things which He had foretold by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer.

To Him do all the prophets bear witness, that whosoever believeth on Him shall receive the forgiveness of their sins through his name.

But having obtained help of God, I continue until this day, testifying both to small and great, and saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses declared should come to pass; even that the Messiah should suffer,

separated unto the gospel of God, (which He had promised before by his prophets in the holy scriptures) concerning his Son,

For in the first place I delivered to you, that which I also received, to wit, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures: and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the scriptures. And that he was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve:

concerning which salvation the prophets, who prophesied of the grace to be conferred on you, enquired and diligently sought after it: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them did declare in testifying beforehand the sufferings that were to come upon Christ, and the glories following them: to whom it was revealed, that it was not to themselves, but to us they ministered these things, which are now declared unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you, through the holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

(Now all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled, which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying, "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel," which is God with us.)

for thus it is written by the prophet, "And thou Bethlehem in the land of Juda art not the meanest among the cities of the princes of Juda; for out of thee shall come forth a ruler, that shall feed my people Israel."

and stayed there till the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying, " Out of Egypt have I called my Son."

Then some of the scribes and pharisees answered Him, saying, Master, we should be glad to see a sign from thee: but He replied and said unto them, This wicked and degenerate race demand a sign; but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah: for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.read more.
So that the men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgement against this generation, and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold a greater than Jonas is here.

And when the multitudes were gathering thick together He began to say, This is a wicked generation: they demand a sign, but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah: for as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the south shall rise up in the day of judgement against the men of this generation and condemn them: for she came from the remote parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold a greater than Solomon is here.read more.

This wicked and degenerate race demand a sign; but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah. And so He left them and went away.

Our fathers did eat manna in the desert, as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Therefore Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I tell you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which descendeth from heaven, and giveth life to the world.read more.
Therefore said they unto Him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. Then Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.

Now these things being thus disposed, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle to perform their daily services: but into the second only the high-priest went once a year; and that not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the sins of the people committed through ignorance. Which figure remains to the present time, wherein gifts and sacrifices are offered, that cannot perfect the worshipper as to his conscience, relating only to meats and drinks, and different washings, and such carnal ordinances as were required till the time of reformation. But Christ being come an high-priest of the good things to come, hath entered once for all into the holy places, through a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of this building, nor by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purification of the flesh; how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself spotless to God, purify your conscience from dead works, that ye may serve the living God?

knowing that ye were redeemed from your vain conversation learned by tradition from your fathers, not with corruptible things, as silver and gold; but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

And he that saw it testifieth it, and his testimony is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye may believe.

And ye are witnesses of these things: and I will send upon you the promise of my Father;

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, being full of grace and truth: and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only-begotten of the Father.

And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

This is the disciple that testifieth of these things, and that writeth them: and we know that his testimony is true.

But ye shall receive power from the holy Spirit coming upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

This Jesus hath God raised up from the dead, of which we all are witnesses.

for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

and we are his witnesses of what we declare; and so is the holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.

and He was seen for many days by those that came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.

The elders that are among you I exhort, who am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker of the glory which shall be revealed; feed the flock of God that is among you,

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have contemplated, and our very hands have felt concerning the Word of life, (for this Life was manifested, and we saw it; and we testify and declare unto you that eternal Life, which was with the Father,

And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Then he permitted Him. And Jesus as soon as He was baptized came up from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened unto Him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon Him: and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

And in those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in Jordan: and as soon as He came up from the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him. And there was a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Now, when all the people were baptized, and Jesus was baptized and praying, the heaven was opened, and the holy Spirit descended in a corporeal form, like a dove upon Him, and there came a voice from heaven saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.

And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it abode upon Him. And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, the same is he that baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. And I saw it, and therefore testified that this is the Son of God.

And as he was speaking, lo a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.

And there was a cloud overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him.

And there came a voice out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him.

And Jesus answered them saying, The time is come that the Son of man is to be glorified. Though I tell you indeed and in truth, Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it remaineth alone; but if it die, it produceth much fruit. So he, that loveth his life, shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, shall preserve it unto life eternal.read more.
If any man would serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: and if any one serve me, him will my Father honour. Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I to this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore that stood by, and heard it, said, That it was thunder: but others said, it was an angel spake to Him. Jesus answered and said, This voice came not for my sake, but for yours. Now is the judgement of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, shall draw all men unto me.

For He received from God the Father honor and glory when a voice came to Him from the magnificent glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." And this voice, from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.

But God raised Him from the dead: and He was seen for many days by those that came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. And we bring you good tidings,read more.
that the promise made unto the fathers God hath fulfilled unto us their children, having raised up Jesus again: as it is also written in the second psalm, "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee." And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to the place of corruption, He hath said thus, "I will give you the sure mercies of David." Wherefore he saith also in another place, Thou wilt not suffer thine holy One to see corruption.

Because He hath fixed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom He hath appointed thereto; having given assurance of it to all men, by raising Him from the dead.

And if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwelleth in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead, will also restore your mortal bodies to life, by his Spirit that now dwelleth in you.

and believe in thine heart, that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses concerning God, for we have testified of God, that He raised up Christ; whom He did not raise up, if indeed the dead do not rise.

who through Him trust in God that raised Him from the dead, and gave Him glory, that your faith and hope might be fixed in God.

I wonder that ye are so soon removed from him who called you by the grace of Christ to another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that disturb you, and would subvert the gospel of Christ. But tho' we or an angel from heaven should preach to you any other gospel than what we have preached to you; let him be accursed.read more.
I say it again, if any one preach to you any other gospel than what ye have received, let him be accursed.

For no one can lay any other foundation, but that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ: and if any build upon this foundation gold,

Beloved, believe not every Spirit, but try the spirits, whether they be of God: for many false prophets are gone out into the world. By this ye may know the Spirit of God: every Spirit that confesseth Jesus Christ, who is come in the flesh, is of God: and every spirit that doth not confess Jesus Christ, who is come in the flesh, is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, which ye have heard was coming, and is already in the world.
