And all that believed were together, and had all things common. And they sold their possessions and goods, and distributed to all, according as any one had need.

Neither was there any indigent person among them; for as many as were proprietors of lands or houses, sold them and brought the prices of what were sold, and laid them at the apostles feet; and distribution was made to every one according to their necessity. So Joses who was by the apostles sirnamed Barnabas, which is a son of consolation, read more.
a Levite, by birth a Cyprian, having an estate, sold it and brought the money, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.

Now in those days, as the number of disciples increased, there rose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. So the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, It is not seemly that we should leave the word of God and attend at tables. Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter:

And each of the disciples, according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren who dwelt in Judea. Which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. For the Macedonians and Achaians have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor saints at Jerusalem. It pleased them, I say, and they are indeed their debtors; for if the Gentiles have partook of their spiritual things, they ought also to be helpful to them in carnal ones. read more.
Therefore when I have dispatched this, and sealed this fruit of love to them, I will come by you into Spain.

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so also do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you set apart something, putting it into the treasury, according as he is prospered: that there may be no need of collections, when I come. And when I am with you, whomsoever ye shall approve, I will send, with your letters, to carry your bounty to Jerusalem. read more.
And if it be requisite for me to go also, they shall go with me.

Now we make known to you, brethren, the grace of God conferred on the churches of Macedonia: how in a great trial of affliction, their abundant chearfulness and their deep poverty, hath munificently shewn the riches of their bounty. For to their power, I bear them witness, yea and beyond their power, they contributed of their own accord: read more.

Concerning whom we have much to say and difficult to be explained, since ye are become dull of hearing. For whereas ye ought for the time to be teachers of others, ye have need again of some one to teach you the first rudiments of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk and not of solid food. For every one that wanteth milk, is unacquainted with the doctrine of justification; for he is an infant: read more.
but firm food is for persons come to age, who by habit have their senses exercised to a discernment both of good and evil.

Wherefore omitting the discourse about the first principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us proceed to perfection: not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God, of the doctrine of baptisms, and laying on of hands, and of the resurrection from the dead, and of eternal judgement: (tho' we will do this also, if God permit:) for it is impossible that those, read more.
who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the holy Spirit, and of the good word of God, and the powers of the gospel-age, and yet fall away, should be renewed again to repentance: since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and make an open example of Him. For as the earth, which imbibeth the rain that is frequently coming upon it, and produceth herbs fit for those by whom it is cultivated, receiveth a blessing from God: but that which bringeth forth thorns and briars, is rejected and near to a curse, (whose end is burning) so are they. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak for your caution. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewn to his name, by having ministred to the saints, and yet ministring. And we desire that every one of you would shew the same diligence to acquire the full assurance of hope even unto the end: that ye would not be sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience are inheriting the promises. For when God made the promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no greater, He sware by Himself, saying, "Verily blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee." And thus waiting patiently he obtained the promise. For men swear by a greater Being, and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all controversy.
