But now I have written to you, not to associate with him, if any one, that is called a brother, be a whoremonger, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or rapacious; with such a one no not to eat.

Therefore be not partners with them.

and one that feared God, with all his house; giving also much alms to the people, and praying to God continually.

whom he had a great value for, was ill and ready to die;

but ye say, If any man say to his father or mother, "that which thou mightest be profited by from me is a gift to the temple,"

Honour thy father and thy mother, (which is the first commandment with promise,) that it may be well with thee, and thou shalt be long-lived upon the earth.

Children, obey your parents in all things; for this is well-pleasing to the Lord:

and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus: for all scripture is by inspiration from God,

and said, Verily I declare unto you, unless ye be converted, and become like little children, ye shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he shall be greatest in the kingdom of heaven:

for the promise is to you and to your children, yea and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

And behold, there came one to Him, and said, Good master, what good shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

If thou lay these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, as one brought up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, to which thou hast attained.

holding fast the faithful word, according as he hath been taught, that he may be able both to instruct in sound doctrine, and to convince gainsayers.

But do thou speak the things which become sound doctrine:

Remember your guides, who spake the word of God to you; whose faith imitate, considering the happy end of their conversation.

Let no one have cause to despise thy youth; but he thou an example to believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

nor as lording it over the people, but being examples to the flock.

in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, with uncorruptness in teaching, gravity, sound doctrine that cannot be condemned; that he who opposeth it may be ashamed, having no evil to say of you.

having a good conscience, that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who calumniate your good conversation in Christ.

having faith and a good conscience, which some putting away have made shipwreck concerning the faith:

For this is our rejoicing, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and pious sincerity, not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and especially towards you.

It is a truth highly to be believed, and worthy to be received by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners:---of whom I am one of the chief.

And on this account do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence both towards God and towards men.

And one Ananias, a devout observer of the law, who had a good character from all the Jews that dwelt there,

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of a good character among all the nation of the Jews, hath been warned from God by an holy angel, to send for thee to his house, and to hear what thou shalt say.

Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter:

For by grace ye are saved, through faith: and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not by works, that no one may boast: for we are his workmanship,

who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose, and grace bestowed upon us through Christ Jesus, before the world was,

because they sought it not by faith, but by the works of the law, for they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;

knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name have cast out devils, and in thy name have wrought many miracles? and I will then declare unto them, I never owned you, depart from me, ye workers of iniquity.

I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and that thou canst not bear those that are evil: and thou hast tried those who say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars; and hast borne trouble, and hast patience;

And there was at Joppa a certain female disciple named Tabitha, who by interpretation is called in Greek Dorcas: and she was full of good works and alms-deeds.

for I was famishing, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; I was naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye took care of me; I was in prison, and ye visited me.

Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father:

Take for an example of enduring evil and of long-suffering the prophets, who spake in the name of the Lord.

For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.

For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps.

Not that we have not power, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you to imitate us.

And the angel answering said to him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God, and I am sent to speak to thee, and to tell thee this good news:

so faith, if it have not works, being alone, is dead. But one may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt be grown insipid, wherewith shall it be seasoned? it is no longer fit for any thing, but to be thrown out of doors, and trodden under foot.

Salt is useful, but if the salt become insipid, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt therefore in yourselves, and as a proof of it be at peace one with another.

For the word of the Lord sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia; but also in every place your faith towards God is spread abroad, so that we have no need to say any thing of it.

And if any wife hath an unbelieving husband, and he like to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband: else were your children unclean; but they are holy.

Let your women be silent in your assemblies: for it is not permitted to them to speak, but they are to be in subjection, as the law saith.

And when the sabbath was past Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices in order to come and embalm Him:

and some women that had been cured of evil spirits and other infirmities, as Mary Magdalene, out of whom were cast seven demons,

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene cometh early in the morning, while it was yet dark, to the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. She therefore runneth and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid Him.

But Mary stood without near the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept she stooped down to look into the sepulchre; and there seeth two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they said to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him. read more.
And having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Then said Jesus to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom dost thou seek? She thinking that it was the gardener, saith to Him, Sir, if thou hast carried Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary: and she turned herself and said unto Him, Rabboni, that is to say, Master.

And Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

And when He was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as He was at table, there came a woman with an alabaster-box of ointment of spikenard, very valuable; and she brake the box and poured it on his head. And there were some provoked at it and said, Why was this waste made of the ointment? For it might have been sold for above three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they inveighed against her. read more.
But Jesus said, Let her alone, why do ye give her uneasiness? She has done a kind office to me. For ye have the poor always with you, and may do them good, whenever ye will; but me ye have not always. She has done what she could: she has embalmed my body beforehand against the burial. Verily I tell you, wheresoever this gospel is preached, through all the world, what she hath done shall also be told for a memorial of her.

and He saw also a poor widow throwing in two mites. And He said, Verily I tell you, this poor widow hath put in more than they all. For all these have out of their abundance contributed to the offerings of God: but she out of her penury hath given all she had.

And as Jesus was sitting over against the treasury, He saw how the people threw money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in much; and there came a poor widow and put in two mites, that is, a farthing. And He called his disciples to Him, and saith unto them, Verily I tell you, that this poor widow has given more than all those who have cast into the treasury. read more.
For they all have contributed out of their abundance: but she out of her penury hath given all that she had, even her whole living.

And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

And as soon as Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the child leaped in her womb, and Elisabeth was filled with the holy Spirit: and she cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb: and whence is this honor to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? read more.

What is the advantage, my brethren, if any one say that he has faith, and he hath not works, can faith alone save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food; and one of you say to them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and be ye filled: but ye give them not the necessaries of life, what profit is it to them? read more.
so faith, if it have not works, being alone, is dead. But one may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. But desirest thou to know, O vain man, that faith without works, is dead?

Admonish them to be submissive to governors and magistrates, to obey their orders, and to be ready to every good work;

Charge them, that are rich in this world, not to be high-minded nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly affords us all things for enjoyment: charge them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

And let our brethren-also learn to excel in good works for necessary exigencies, that they may not be unfruitful.

But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak for your caution. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewn to his name, by having ministred to the saints, and yet ministring.

For we must all appear before the tribunal of Christ, that every one may receive for the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it were good or bad.

how God anointed Him with the holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil: for God was with Him.

Many good works have I shewn you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

And he said to them that stood by, Take away the pound from him, and give it to him that hath the ten pounds. (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds already:) for I tell you, that to every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even what he seemingly hath shall be taken away. But those mine enemies, who would not have me to reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

And after they had received it they murmured against the master of the house, saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, who have borne the burthen and heat of the day. But he answered, and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny? read more.
Take what is thine, and be gone: it is my pleasure to give to this last as I do to thee; and may I not do what I will with my own?

And he also who received the one talent came to him and said, Sir, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou sowedst not, and gathering where thou hast not strewed; and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the ground; behold, there is thine own: but his lord answered and said to him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed; thou oughtest then to have put my money to the bankers, and when I came I should have received my own with interest. Take ye therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath the ten talents; (for to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him that hath not, even what he hath, or seemeth to have, shall be taken away:)

And He spake this parable, A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, but found none. And he said to the vine-dresser, behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and find none: cut it down, why should it cumber the ground? And he said to him, Sir, let it alone this year also, till I dig about it, and lay dung to it: read more.
then perhaps it may bear fruit; if not, afterwards cut it down.

So also the good works of some are manifest; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

Herein is my father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples.

But he that looketh well into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
