And Jesus answered and said to them: On account of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote this commandment for you. Verse Conceptsdivorce, amongst believersHardness Of Heart

But though he had done so many signs in their presence, yet they believed not on him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: read more.
He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and should turn, and I should give them health. These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him. But yet, many even of the rulers believed on him; but on account of the Pharisees, they would not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. Jesus cried, and said: He that believes on me, believes not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that sees me, sees him that sent me. I have come a light into the world, that he who believes on me, may not remain in darkness. And if any one hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has that which judges him: the word which I have spoken, that shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself: but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life eternal. What things I speak therefore, as the Father has said to me, so I speak.

I know that you are the posterity of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have seen with your father. They answered and said to him: Abra ham is our father. Jesus said to them: If you were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham. read more.
But now you seek to kill me, a man that has spoken to you the truth, which I have heard from God; this Abraham did not. You do the works of your father. They said to him: We were not born of lewdness; we have one father, God. Jesus said to them: If God were your father, you would love me; for I came forth from God and have come hither; nor, indeed, did I come of myself, but he sent me. Why do you not know what I say? Because you can not understand my words. You are of your father, the devil; and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the be ginning, and stood not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks that which is false, he speaks from what is his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. But because I speak the truth, you believe me not. Which of you convicts me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me? He that is of God, hears God's words. For this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.

Jesus answered them: I have told you, and you do not believe. The works which I do in my Father's name, these testify of me. But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep. As I said to you, my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: read more.
and I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall take them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to take them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

Jesus answered and said to him: Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things? Verily, verily, I say to you, we speak that which we know, and testify to that which we have seen; and you receive not our testimony. If I have told you of earthly things, and you believe not, how will you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Then Jesus said to them: Yet a little while is the light with you: walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you. For he that walks in the darkness knows not whither he goes. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become the sons of light. These things spoke Jesus, and he departed, and concealed himself from them. But though he had done so many signs in their presence, yet they believed not on him, read more.
