Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the anti-christ, [the man that] denies the Father and the Son. And this is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life. I have written these things to you concerning those who deceive you. And the anointing which you received from him continues in you, and you have no need that any one should teach you; but as his anointing teaches you of all things, and is true and is not a lie, even as it has taught you, continue in him. And now, little children, continue in him, that when he shall appear we may have boldness, and not be put to shame by him at his coming.

Beloved, if our minds do not condemn us, we have boldness before God,

And he that has made us for this is God, who has given us the pledge of the Spirit. Being always confident therefore, and knowing that while we are present in the body we are absent from the Lord,??7 we walk by faith, not by sight;??8 but we are confident, and are pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore also we strive, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to him.

And Peter answered and said to him, If all men shall be offended with you, I will not. Jesus said to him, I tell you truly, that this night, before the cock crows, you will deny me thrice. Peter said to him, If it should be necessary for me to die with you, I will by no means deny you. And all the disciples said the same.

And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death. And he said, I tell you, Peter, a cock shall not crow today, before you shall deny thrice that you know me.

And fully believing this, I know that I shall continue, and continue with you all, for your advancement and joy of the faith,

Him therefore I hope to send to you as soon as I know how it will be with me; and I hope in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

We are the circumcision, who serve God in spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and trust not in the flesh, although I have ground of confidence in the flesh. If any other one thinks he may trust in the flesh, I [may] more;

See that no one leads you off as a prey through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

Be not carried about with various and strange doctrines; for it is good that the mind should be established with grace, not with aliments, in which those walking are not profited.

Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
