He that spareth the rod, hateth his son; but whoso loveth him, chastiseth him betimes.
And ye fathers, move not your children to wrath: but bring them up with the nurture and information of the Lord.

Then came all his sons and all his daughters to comfort him. And he would not be comforted, but said, "I will go down into the grave unto my son, mourning." And thus his father wept for him.
And he said, "My son shall not go down with you. For his brother is dead, and he is left alone. Moreover, some misfortune might happen upon him by the way which ye go. And so should ye bring my gray head with sorrow unto the grave."
And David besought God for the boy and fasted and went and lay all night upon the earth.
And by that time, the king turned his mind from pursuing Absalom. For he had left mourning for the death of Amnon.
and besought him greatly saying, "My daughter lieth at point of death, I would thou wouldst come and lay thy hand on her, that she might be safe and live."

And they said unto me, "The remnant of the captivity are there in the land in great misfortune and rebuke. The walls of Jerusalem are broken down, and the gates thereof are burnt with fire." When I heard these words, I sat me down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,
and said unto the king, "If it please the king, and if thy servant be favoured in thy sight, I beseech thee: send me in to Judah unto the city of my fathers' burial, that I may build it."
for we were ashamed to hear the blasphemies; our faces were covered with shame, because the strange aliens came into the Sanctuary of the LORD.
For I have wished myself to be cursed from Christ, for my brethren and my kinsmen as pertaining to the flesh:
