And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry.
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against your soul.

These indeed have an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but they are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those mutilators of the body. For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh,
If with Christ you died to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you still belonged to it, do you submit to regulations such as, "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" (referring to things which are all destined perish with use), according to human commandments and teachings?
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, through the pretensions of liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron, who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.read more.
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
