And this is the confidence which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us;
saying, Father, if thou art willing to remove this cup from meyet not my will, but thine be done!
I desire, then, that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may supply that which is lacking in your faith?
Elijah was a man of like nature with us, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months;
I say to you, though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and ye will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
And he spoke a parable to them to show that they ought to pray always, and not be fainthearted: saying, There was in a certain city a judge, who feared not God, nor regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; and she kept coming to him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary!read more.
And he would not for some time. But afterward he said within himself, Though I neither fear God, nor regard man, yet, because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her; lest by coming for ever she weary me out. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And will not God avenge his chosen, who cry to him day and night, though he be slow to punish in their behalf?
Now she that is a widow indeed, and left alone, hath set her hope on God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day;
Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God;
