but sinners to repentance.

Brethren, if any among you be seduced from the truth, and one convert him; let him know that he, who turneth back a sinner from the error of his way, shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

and preaching the baptism of repentance in order to the remission of sins;

and he went into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance in order to the remission of sins;

and that in his name should be preached repentance and remission of sins to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

but to be gentle towards all men, ready to teach, patient under injuries, with meekness instructing those of different sentiments, not knowing but God may give them repentance to the acknowledgement of the truth; and they may awake out of the snare of the devil, who have been captivated by him to his will.

Bring forth therefore fruits becoming penitents, and do not say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father," for I tell you that God can of these stones raise up children to Abraham. And now the ax is laid to the root of the trees: every tree therefore which doth not yield good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works: else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of its place, if thou repent not.

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Now after John was cast into prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent, and believe the gospel.

and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand:

And Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the holy Spirit: for the promise is to you and to your children, yea and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out: that seasons of refreshing may come upon you from the presence of the Lord;

Him hath God exalted with his right hand as a prince and saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins:

And when they heard these things they acquiesced, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God given to the Gentiles also repentance unto life.

The Lord is not slow as to his promise (as some count it slowness) but is long-suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

And I gave her time to repent of her fornication, and she repented not.

Wherefore though God overlooked the times of this ignorance, He now requireth all men every where to repent. Because He hath fixed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom He hath appointed thereto; having given assurance of it to all men, by raising Him from the dead.

but exhort one another daily, while it is called to-day; that none of you may be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin: for we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold fast our first confidence firm unto the end; inasmuch as it is said, "To-day if ye will hear his voice,

He appoints a certain day, called To-day, saying by David so long after, (as it is recorded) "To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts."

Then began He to upbraid the cities, in which most of his miracles were wrought; because they did not repent.

for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him; but publicans and harlots believed him; and though ye saw that, ye did not repent afterwards, to believe him.

And the rest of the men, who were not killed by these plagues, yet repented not of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk: neither did they repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their whoredom, nor of their thefts.

And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God, who hath power over these plagues, and they repented not to give Him glory. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was darkened, and they gnawed their tongues for pain. And they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they repented not of their works.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, Ye shall hear by the hearing of the ear, and not understand; and in seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: for the heart of this people is grown stupid, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; least they should see at all with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

And he said unto them, To you it is granted to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto them that are without all things are delivered in parables: that in seeing they may see and not perceive, and in hearing they may hear and not understand, least they should be converted, and their sins be forgiven them.

And his disciples asked Him, what might be the meaning of this parable. And He said, To you it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but I speak to others in parables, that in seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

And so disagreeing one with another they separated, when Paul had said one word, to wit, that the holy Spirit spake rightly by Esaias the prophet to our fathers, saying, Go to this people and say, Ye shall hear by the hearing of the ear, and not understand; and in seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: for the heart of this people is stupified, and they hear heavily with their ears, and have closed their eyes; least they should see at all with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

least there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one repast gave away his birthright. For ye know that, when he would afterwards have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no room for repentance, though he sought it earnestly even with tears.
