Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Turn away from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for of what account is he?

What profits the graven image that its maker has shaped it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols?

Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any value to the indulgence of the flesh.
Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. A horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again your sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
He that trusts in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
Trust not in oppression, and hope not vainly in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
Why boast yourself in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come against me?

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
