'Themselves' in the Bible
I will not fear multitudes of people, who set themselves against me on every side.
They say to themselves, "We will not be moved throughout all time, and we will not experience adversity."
The wicked say to themselves, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."
Why do the wicked despise God and say to themselves, "God will not seek justice."?
Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They are corrupt and commit evil deeds; not one of them practices what is good.
Indeed, you deliver the oppressed, but you bring down those who exalt themselves in their own eyes.
They divide my clothing among themselves; they cast lots for my clothing!
Instead, let those who gloat over the evil directed against me be ashamed and confounded together; Let those who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and dishonor.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."
In fact, people walk around as shadows. Surely, they busy themselves for nothing, heaping up possessions but not knowing who will get them.
Their inner thoughts are on their homes forever; their dwellings from generation to generation. They even name their lands after themselves.
Fools say to themselves "There is no God." They are corrupt and commit iniquity; not one of them practices what is good.
Without any fault on my part, they rush together and prepare themselves. Get up! Come help me! Pay attention!
They concoct an evil scheme for themselves; they enumerate their hidden snares; they say, "Who will see them?"
The wilderness pastures drip with dew, and the hills wrap themselves with joy.
He rules by his power forever, his eyes watching over the nations. Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Interlude
Rebuke the wildlife that lives among the reeds, the nations that congregate like bulls and cows, humbling themselves with pieces of silver, for God scatters the nations that delight in battle.
They say to themselves, "We'll crush them completely;" They burned down all the meeting places of God in the land.
For evil's scepter will not rest on the land that has been allotted to the righteous, and so the righteous will not direct themselves to do wrong.
Never grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; never condone their plans so they cannot exalt themselves. Interlude
