for now is the time when God will begin his judgments with his own church. now if he begins with us, what will the conclusion be to those who do not obey the divine gospel?

there is but one legislator, and judge, he that has the power of life and death: who art thou, to pass sentence upon another?

My brethren, don't affect many of you to be doctors, considering, that those of us who are such, shall be tried with the greater severity.

as then it is appointed that men should die but once, after which the judgment ensues;

don't you know that these are to judge the world? if the world is to be judg'd by you, are not you qualify'd to decide your petty causes?

do you think then, O man, who do what you condemn in others, that you shall escape the judgment of God?

for he that has not shewed mercy, shall be condemn'd without mercy: while the merciful shall triumph at his trial.

but I declare unto you, that men shall give an account at the day of judgment, of every scandalous expression they utter.

now is this world condemn'd: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

don't judge others, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven.

The vices of some men are so notorious, they prevent any inquisition: others don't discover themselves till they have been ordain'd.

but they are all expos'd to the judgment of the spiritual, whilst he himself is not subject to the judgment of any man.

and this is the subject of their condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

as for me, it is a matter of no great concern that I should be called to account by you, or any human authority; not that I am my own judge;
