15 Why should your soldiers be cut down? They cannot stand because Jehovah will push them down.

15 Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them.

15 “Why have your (AI)mighty ones become prostrate? They do not stand because the Lord has (AJ)thrust them down.

15 Why have your strong ones been swept away? Each has not stood, for the Lord has thrust him down.

15 Why are your warriors prostrate? They don't stand because the LORD has brought them down.

16 They have repeatedly stumbled and now they have fallen. They say to each other: 'Get up! Let us go back to our people, to the land where we were born and escape our enemy's sword.'

16 He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

16 “They have repeatedly (AK)stumbled;Indeed, they have fallen one against another. Then they said, ‘Get up! And (AL)let us go backTo our own people and our native landAway from the (n)(AM)sword of the oppressor.’

16 He continues to stumble.(S)Indeed, each falls over the other. They say, “Get up! Let’s return to our peopleand to the land of our birth, away from the sword that oppresses.”(T)

16 They repeatedly stumble and fall. They say to each other, "Get up! Let's go back to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the oppressor's sword.'

17 There they will cry: 'Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is a big windbag. He has missed his chance.'

17 They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

17 (o)They cried there, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is but (AN)a big noise; He has let the appointed time pass by!’

17 There they will cry out,“Pharaoh king of Egypt was all noise;he let the opportune moment pass.”

17 There they'll cry out, "Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is just a big noise. He has let the appointed time pass by.'

18 As I live,' declares the king, whose name is Jehovah of Hosts; 'someone who is like Mount Tabor among the mountains will come. Someone who is like Mount Carmel by the sea will come.

18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

19 Pack your bags inhabitants of Egypt, because you will be taken away as captives. Memphis will become a dreary wasteland, a pile of rubble where no one lives.

19 O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

19 “Make your baggage ready for (AR)exile,O (AS)daughter dwelling in Egypt,For (AT)Memphis will become a desolation; It will even be burned down and (p)bereft of inhabitants.

20 Egypt is a beautiful young cow,(W)but a horsefly from the north is coming against her.(b)(X)

20 Egypt is a beautiful calf, but a horsefly from the north is surely coming.

21 Egypt's hired soldiers are like fattened calves. They will turn and run away together. They will not stand their ground. The day of destruction is coming. At that time they will be punished.'

21 Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

21 “Also her (AW)mercenaries in her midstAre like (r)fattened (AX)calves,For even they too have turned back and have fled away together; They did not stand their ground. For the day of their calamity has come upon them,The time of their (AY)punishment.

22 Egypt will hiss like a snake as it slithers away. Its enemies will come with full force. They will attack it with axes like those who chop wood.

22 The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

22 “Its sound moves along like a serpent; For they move on (s)like an armyAnd come to her as woodcutters with axes.

22 Egypt will hiss like a slithering snake,(c)for the enemy will come with an army;with axes they will come against herlike those who cut trees.(Z)

22 Her cry will be like that of a fleeing serpent when they come in strength. They're coming to her with axes like woodcutters.

23 They will cut down the forest,' declares Jehovah, 'since Egypt cannot be found. They are more numerous than locusts. They cannot be counted.

23 They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

23 “They have cut down her (AZ)forest,” declares the Lord;“Surely it will no more be found,Even though (t)they are now more numerous than (BA)locustsAnd are without number.

23 They will cut down her forest—this is the Lord’s declaration—though it is dense, for they are more numerous than locusts;they cannot be counted.(AA)

24 The people of Egypt will be put to shame. They will be handed over to the people from the north.'

24 The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says, “Behold, I am going to punish Amon of (BC)Thebes, and (BD)Pharaoh, and Egypt along with her (BE)gods and her kings, even Pharaoh and those who (BF)trust in him.

25 The LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel says, "Look, I'm going to punish Amon of Thebes, Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods and its kings, Pharaoh, and those who trust in him.

26 I will hand them over to those who want to kill them, to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and his officers. Afterward, they will live in peace as they did long ago,'declares Jehovah.

26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.

26 I shall give them over to the (v)power of those who are (BG)seeking their lives, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his (w)officers. (BH)Afterwards, however, it will be inhabited as in the days of old,” declares the Lord.
