But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male-children alive.

And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the male-children alive?

And all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even to the first-born of the maid-servant that is behind the mill; and all the first-born of beasts.

Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it from the sheep or from the goats:

Every first-born is mine: and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.

Thrice in the year shall all your male children appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel.
