and if those days had not been cut short, no flesh had been saved; but on account of the elect those days shall be cut short.

and if the Lord had not cut short those days, no flesh should have been saved; but on account of the elect whom he has chosen, he has cut short those days.

for he is bringing the matter to an end, and cutting it short in righteousness; because a cutting short of the matter will the Lord accomplish upon the earth.

For to this end Christ has died and lived again, that he might rule over both dead and living.
