Jesus said, "I am come unto judgment, into this world: that they which see not, might see, and they which see might be made blind."



I am come to send fire on earth: and what is my desire but that it were already kindled?


and if any man hear my words and believe not, I judge him not. For I came not to judge the world: but to save the world.

Pilate said unto him, "Art thou a King then?" Jesus answered, "Thou sayest that I am a King. For this cause was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. And all that are of the truth hear my voice."


Then said Paul, "John verily baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him, which should come after him. That is on Christ Jesus."

as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet, which sayeth, "The voice of a crier in wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low: And crooked things shall be made straight: and the rough ways shall be made smooth. And all flesh shall see the saviour sent of God."

Jesus answered, and said unto them, "Elijah shall first come, and restore all things.

As it is written in the prophets, "Behold, I send my messenger before thy face which shall prepare thy way before thee;" "The voice of a crier in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." John did baptise in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins. read more.
And all the land of Jewry, and they of Jerusalem went out unto him, and were all baptised of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a beast's skin about his loins. And he did eat locusts and wild honey, and preached, saying, "A stronger than I cometh after me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I have baptised you with water: but he shall baptise you with the holy ghost."

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall neither drink wine nor strong drink. And he shall be filled with the holy ghost, even in his mother's womb: and many of the children of Israel shall he turn to their Lord God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the unbelievers to the wisdom of the just men: to make the people ready for the Lord."

And thou child, shalt be called the prophet of the highest, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare his ways: And to give knowledge of salvation unto his people, for the remission of sins: Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day spring from on high hath visited us: read more.
To give light to them that sat in darkness, and in shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace."

The same came as a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that light: but to bear witness of the light.


Then said they unto him, "What art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thy self?" He said, "I am the voice of a crier in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah." And they which were sent, were of the Pharisees. read more.
And they asked him, and said unto him, "Why baptisest thou then, if thou be not Christ, nor Elijah, neither a prophet?" John answered them, saying, "I baptise with water: but one is come among you, whom ye know not. He it is that cometh after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose." These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John did baptise.

and I knew him not: but that he should be declared to Israel, therefore am I come, baptising with water.'" And John bare record, saying, "I saw the spirit descend from heaven, like unto a dove, and abide upon him, and I knew him not: But he that sent me to baptise in water, the same said unto me, 'Upon whom thou shalt see the spirit descend, and tarry still on him, the same is he which baptiseth with the holy ghost.' read more.

There is another that beareth witness of me. And I am sure that the witness which he beareth of me is true. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth: but I receive not the record of man. Nevertheless, these things I say, that ye might be safe. read more.
He was a burning, and a shining light; and ye would for a season have rejoiced in his light.

when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to Israel. And when John had fulfilled his course, he said, 'Whom ye think that I am? The same am I not, but behold there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.'
