([Psalm of Asaph]) Oh, give ear (listen), Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; you who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!

His bow stayed steady! His arms remained limber because of the help of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today hear His voice!

Your people, the flock in your pasture, will thank you forever. We will praise you throughout all generations.

Know that Jehovah is God. He has made us, and not we ourselves. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

What do you think? A man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone wandering away. Will he leave the ninety-nine and go in search of the wandering one? When he finds it, I tell you he will be filled with more joy than he would have if he had stayed with the ninety-nine. Even so, your Father in heaven does not want any of these little ones to be lost.

Then Jesus told them an illustration: If you have a hundred sheep and lose one of them, what do you do? You leave the other ninety-nine sheep in the pasture and go looking for the one you lost until you find it. When you find it you are happy. You carry it on your shoulders.read more.

This is what the Lord Jehovah says to them: I will judge disputes between the fat sheep and the skinny sheep. You fat sheep push the skinny sheep with your sides and shoulders. You knock down all the sick sheep with your horns. You have scattered them all over. So I will rescue my sheep, and they will no longer be prey. I will judge between one sheep and another.

Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture! Says Jehovah.

I will place one shepherd over them, my servant David. He will take care of them. He will take care of them and be their shepherd.

Do not lord it over your charge, but make yourselves examples to the flock. When the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.
