15 Bible Verses about Penitent

Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.

For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you forgive not men their offenses, neither will your Father forgive your offenses.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For every one that asks, receives; and he that seeks, finds; and to him that knocks, it shall be opened. What man is there of you, of whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?read more.
And if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If then you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?

Come to me, all you that are weary, and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my bur den is light.

A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoking wick he shall not extinguish, till he shall send forth his law for conquest.

Therefore I say to you, That every sin and impious speech shad be forgiven men: but the impious speech against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind; to set free the oppressed;

Judge not, and you shall not be judged; condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be for given.

What man of you that has a hundred sheep, and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, till he find it? And when he finds it, he puts it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, and says to them., Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.read more.
I say to you, That thus there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety-nine just persons, who need no repentance. Or, what woman that has ten drachmas, if she lose one drachma, does not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and search carefully till she find it? And when she finds it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I lost. So, I say to you, There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents. Then he said: A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of the property that falls to me. And he divided his estate between them. And not many days after, the younger son, taking with him all that was his, left home for a distant country, and there wasted his property in riotous living. When he had spent all, there was a great famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want. And he went and attached himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods which the swine did eat. And no one gave to him. But when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I am perishing with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. And while he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion on him, and ran and fell upon his neck, and kissed him. But his son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it- on him, and put a ring on his hand, and sandals on his feet. And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again: he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. But his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called to him one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him in health. And he was angry, and would not go in. Then his father went out and entreated him. But he answered and said to his father, Behold, for so many years do I serve you, and never have I transgressed your commandment, and yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this your son has come, Who has eaten up your estate with harlots, you have killed for him the fatted calf. And he said to him, Son, you are ever with me, and all that I have is yours. But it became us to make merry and rejoice; for this your brother was dead, and is alive again: was lost, and is found.

Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself: God, I thank thee that I am not as other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess.read more.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying: God, be merciful to me a sinner. I say to you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For every one that exalts himself, shall be humbled; but he that humbles himself, shall be exalted.

All that the Father gives me, will come to me; and him that comes to me, I will by no means cast out.

I am the door: if any one enters through me, he shall be saved; and he shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Be it known to you, therefore, brethren, that through this man is preached to you the remission of sins: and by him, every one that believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

that if you will confess with your mouth, that Jesus is Lord, and will believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart we believe, in order to justification; and with the mouth we make confession, it order to salvation. For the scripture says: He that believes on him shall not be ashamed.read more.
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord of all is rich to all that call on him: For every one that calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
