because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [forces] of wickedness in the heavenly [places].

For [although we] are living in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare [are] not merely human, but powerful to God for the tearing down of fortresses, tearing down arguments

The night is far gone, and the day has drawn near. Therefore let us throw off the deeds of darkness and put on the weapons of light. Let us live decently, as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and licentiousness, not in strife and jealousy. Dear friends, I urge [you] as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your soul,

"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, [when] once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

but I observe another law in my members, at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that exists in my members.

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, [when it] takes place to test you, as [if] [something] strange were happening to you. But to the degree that you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also at the revelation of his glory you may rejoice [and] be glad.

Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

But encourage one another {day by day}, as long as it is called "today," so that {none of you become hardened} by the deception of sin.

so that we ourselves boast in you in the churches of God about your patient endurance and faith in all your persecutions and the afflictions that you are enduring,

{Resist him}, steadfast in your faith, [because you] know the same [kinds] of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world.
