'Wickedness' in the Bible

When the Lord saw that man’s wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every scheme his mind thought of was nothing but evil all the time,

When the Lord your God drives them out before you, do not say to yourself, ‘The Lord brought me in to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.’ Instead, the Lord will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness.

You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity. Instead, the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to keep the promise He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Disregard this people’s stubbornness, and their wickedness and sin.

The Lord will send against you curses, confusion, and rebuke in everything you do until you are destroyed and quickly perish, because of the wickedness of your actions in abandoning Me.

For rebellion is like the sin of divination,and defiance is like wickedness and idolatry.Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,He has rejected you as king.

As the old proverb says, ‘Wickedness comes from wicked people.’ My hand will never be against you.

For I have kept the ways of the Lordand have not turned from my God to wickedness.

Isn’t your wickedness abundantand aren’t your iniquities endless?

In full view of the public,He strikes them for their wickedness,

Your wickedness affects a person like yourself,and your righteousness another human being.

For You are not a God who delights in wickedness;evil cannot dwell with You.

Break the arm of the wicked and evil person;call his wickedness into accountuntil nothing remains of it.

For I have kept the ways of the Lordand have not turned from my God to wickedness.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness;therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joymore than your companions.

and fruitful land into salty wasteland,because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.

They eat the bread of wickednessand drink the wine of violence.

For my mouth tells the truth,and wickedness is detestable to my lips.

The righteousness of the blameless clears his path,but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness.

Man cannot be made secure by wickedness,but the root of the righteous is immovable.

Righteousness guards people of integrity,but wickedness undermines the sinner.

Wickedness is atoned for by loyalty and faithfulness,and one turns from evil by the fear of the Lord.

I also observed under the sun: there is wickedness at the place of judgment and there is wickedness at the place of righteousness.

I turned my thoughts to know, explore, and seek wisdom and an explanation for things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity and folly is madness.

No one has authority over the wind to restrain it, and there is no authority over the day of death; there is no furlough in battle, and wickedness will not allow those who practice it to escape.

Woe to those who drag wickednesswith cords of deceitand pull sin along with cart ropes,

He touched my mouth with it and said:Now that this has touched your lips,your wickedness is removedand your sin is atoned for.

For wickedness burns like a firethat consumes thorns and briersand kindles the forest thicketsso that they go up in a column of smoke.

You were secure in your wickedness;you said, ‘No one sees me.’Your wisdom and knowledgeled you astray.You said to yourself,‘I exist, and there is no one else.’

Isn’t the fast I choose:To break the chains of wickedness,to untie the ropes of the yoke,to set the oppressed free,and to tear off every yoke?

Look to the barren heights and see.Where have you not been immoral?You sat waiting for them beside the highwayslike a nomad in the desert.You have defiled the landwith your prostitution and wickedness.

We acknowledge our wickedness, Lord,the guilt of our fathers;indeed, we have sinned against You.

before your wickedness was exposed? It was like the time you were scorned by the daughters of Aram and all those around her, and by the daughters of the Philistines—those who treated you with contempt from every side.

The person who sins is the one who will die. A son won’t suffer punishment for the father’s iniquity, and a father won’t suffer punishment for the son’s iniquity. The righteousness of the righteous person will be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked person will be on him.

But if a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.

From the day you were createdyou were blameless in your waysuntil wickedness was found in you.

I determined to hand it over to a ruler of nations; he would surely deal with it. I banished it because of its wickedness.

“Now, son of man, say to your people: The righteousness of the righteous person will not save him on the day of his transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked person cause him to stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person won’t be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.

But if a wicked person turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live because of this.

Israel’s arrogance testifies against them.Both Israel and Ephraim stumblebecause of their wickedness;even Judah will stumble with them.

You have plowed wickedness and reaped injustice;you have eaten the fruit of lies.Because you have trusted in your own wayand in your large number of soldiers,

Swing the sicklebecause the harvest is ripe.Come and trample the grapesbecause the winepress is full;the wine vats overflowbecause the wickedness of the nations is great.

“Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because their wickedness has confronted Me.”

Woe to those who dream up wickednessand prepare evil plans on their beds!At morning light they accomplish itbecause the power is in their hands.

Are there still the treasures of wickednessand the accursed short measurein the house of the wicked?

“This is Wickedness,” he said. He shoved her down into the basket and pushed the lead weight over its opening.

So now we consider the arrogant to be fortunate. Not only do those who commit wickedness prosper, they even test God and escape.”

“For indeed, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them,” says the Lord of Hosts, “not leaving them root or branches.
