'Written' in the Bible

“In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him, “because this is what was written by the prophet:

But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.”

and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:He will give His angels orders concerning you,and they will support you with their handsso that you will not strikeyour foot against a stone.”

Jesus told him, “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.”

Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written:Worship the Lord your God,and serve only Him.”

“It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.

This is the one it is written about:Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You;he will prepare Your way before You.

And He said to them, “It is written, My house will be called a house of prayer. But you are making it a den of thieves!”

The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”

Then Jesus said to them, “Tonight all of you will run away because of Me, for it is written:I will strike the shepherd,and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You,who will prepare Your way.

He answered them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written:These people honor Me with their lips,but their heart is far from Me.

“Elijah does come first and restores everything,” He replied. “How then is it written about the Son of Man that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

But I tell you that Elijah really has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

Then He began to teach them: “Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves!”

For the Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”

Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will run away, because it is written:I will strike the shepherd,and the sheep will be scattered.

The inscription of the charge written against Him was:THE KING OF THE JEWS.

(just as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every firstborn male will be dedicated to the Lord)

as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:Prepare the way for the Lord;make His paths straight!

But Jesus answered him, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone.”

And Jesus answered him, “It is written:Worship the Lord your God,and serve Him only.”

For it is written:He will give His angels orders concerning you,to protect you,

The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him, and unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:

This is the one it is written about:Look, I am sending My messengerahead of You;he will prepare Your way before You.

However, don’t rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

“What is written in the law?” He asked him. “How do you read it?”

Then He took the Twelve aside and told them, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. Everything that is written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.

and He said, “It is written, My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves!”

because these are days of vengeance to fulfill all the things that are written.

For I tell you, what is written must be fulfilled in Me: And He was counted among the outlaws. Yes, what is written about Me is coming to its fulfillment.”

Then He told them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day,

And His disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal for Your house will consume Me.

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”

It is written in the Prophets: And they will all be taught by God. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me—

Even in your law it is written that the witness of two men is valid.

Jesus answered them, “Isn’t it written in your scripture, I said, you are gods?

Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written:

His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

But this happened so that the statement written in their scripture might be fulfilled: They hated Me for no reason.

Many of the Jews read this sign, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.

Pilate replied, “What I have written, I have written.”

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples that are not written in this book.

But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.

And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written.

“For it is written in the Book of Psalms:Let his dwelling become desolate;let no one live in it; andLet someone else take his position.

Then God turned away and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:House of Israel, did you bring Me offerings and sacrifices40 years in the wilderness?

When they had fulfilled all that had been written about Him, they took Him down from the tree and put Him in a tomb.

God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm:You are My Son;today I have become Your Father.

And the words of the prophets agree with this, as it is written:

With regard to the Gentiles who have believed, we have written a letter containing our decision that they should keep themselves from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from what is strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

“I did not know, brothers, that he was the high priest,” replied Paul. “For it is written, You must not speak evil of a ruler of your people.”

But I confess this to you: I worship my fathers’ God according to the Way, which they call a sect, believing all the things that are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

For even the Messiah did not please Himself. On the contrary, as it is written, The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.

For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.

and so that Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written:Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles,and I will sing psalms to Your name.

Nevertheless, I have written to remind you more boldly on some points because of the grace given me by God

but, as it is written:Those who were not told about Him will see,and those who have not heard will understand.

For it is written:I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,and I will set aside the understanding of the experts.

in order that, as it is written: The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.

But I have used none of these rights, and I have not written this to make it happen that way for me. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast!

Don’t become idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and the other by a free woman.

For it is written:Rejoice, childless woman,who does not give birth.Burst into song and shout,you who are not in labor,for the children of the desolate are many,more numerous than thoseof the woman who has a husband.

The mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have briefly written above.

About the times and the seasons: Brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you.

But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to act in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
