'Written' in the Bible
"In Bethlehem of Judea," they said, "for it is written this way by the prophet:
But he answered, "It is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you' and 'with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
Jesus said to him, "Once again it is written: 'You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.'"
Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan! For it is written: 'You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"
This is the one about whom it is written: 'Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
And he said to them, "It is written, 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are turning it into a den of robbers!"
The Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born."
Then Jesus said to them, "This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way,
He said to them, "Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
He said to them, "Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?
But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him."
Then he began to teach them and said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have turned it into a den of robbers!"
For the Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born."
Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'
(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male will be set apart to the Lord"),
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one shouting in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.
Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone.'"
Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"
for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,'
and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
This is the one about whom it is written, 'Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names stand written in heaven."
He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you understand it?"
Then Jesus took the twelve aside and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
saying to them, "It is written, 'My house will be a house of prayer,' but you have turned it into a den of robbers!"
But Jesus looked straight at them and said, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written: 'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'?
because these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, 'And he was counted with the transgressors.' For what is written about me is being fulfilled."
Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things written about himself in all the scriptures.
Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled."
and said to them, "Thus it stands written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,
His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will devour me."
Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"
It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to me.
It is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
Jesus answered, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, you are gods'?
Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
(His disciples did not understand these things when they first happened, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him and that these things had happened to him.)
Now this happened to fulfill the word that is written in their law, 'They hated me without reason.'
Pilate also had a notice written and fastened to the cross, which read: "Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews."
Thus many of the Jewish residents of Jerusalem read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the notice was written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek.
Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
This is the disciple who testifies about these things and has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
There are many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
"For it is written in the book of Psalms, 'Let his house become deserted, and let there be no one to live in it,' and 'Let another take his position of responsibility.'
But God turned away from them and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: 'It was not to me that you offered slain animals and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, was it, house of Israel?
When they had accomplished everything that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb.
that this promise God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son; today I have fathered you.'
The words of the prophets agree with this, as it is written,
But regarding the Gentiles who have believed, we have written a letter, having decided that they should avoid meat that has been sacrificed to idols and blood and what has been strangled and sexual immorality."
Paul replied, "I did not realize, brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, 'You must not speak evil about a ruler of your people.'"
But I confess this to you, that I worship the God of our ancestors according to the Way (which they call a sect), believing everything that is according to the law and that is written in the prophets.
For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, "The righteous by faith will live."
They show that the work of the law is written in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or else defend them,
For just as it is written, "the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."
And will not the physically uncircumcised man who keeps the law judge you who, despite the written code and circumcision, transgress the law?
but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit and not by the written code. This person's praise is not from people but from God.
Absolutely not! Let God be proven true, and every human being shown up as a liar, just as it is written: "so that you will be justified in your words and will prevail when you are judged."
just as it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one,
(as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations"). He is our father in the presence of God whom he believed -- the God who makes the dead alive and summons the things that do not yet exist as though they already do.
But the statement it was credited to him was not written only for Abraham's sake,
But now we have been released from the law, because we have died to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code.
As it is written, "For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."
just as it is written, "Look, I am laying in Zion a stone that will cause people to stumble and a rock that will make them fall, yet the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."
And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How timely is the arrival of those who proclaim the good news."
as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, to this very day."
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion; he will remove ungodliness from Jacob.
Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord.
For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God."
For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."
For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.
and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name."
But I have written more boldly to you on some points so as to remind you, because of the grace given to me by God
but as it is written: "Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand."
For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will thwart the cleverness of the intelligent."
so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
But just as it is written, "Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those who love him."
For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness."
I have applied these things to myself and Apollos because of you, brothers and sisters, so that through us you may learn "not to go beyond what is written," so that none of you will be puffed up in favor of the one against the other.
For it is written in the law of Moses, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." God is not concerned here about oxen, is he?
Or is he not surely speaking for our benefit? It was written for us, because the one plowing and threshing ought to work in hope of enjoying the harvest.
So do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play."
These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
It is written in the law: "By people with strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, yet not even in this way will they listen to me," says the Lord.
So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living person"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone,
revealing that you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on tablets of human hearts.
But since we have the same spirit of faith as that shown in what has been written, "I believed; therefore I spoke," we also believe, therefore we also speak.
For even if I made you sad by my letter, I do not regret having written it (even though I did regret it, for I see that my letter made you sad, though only for a short time).
as it is written: "The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little."
Just as it is written, "He has scattered widely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever."
For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law."
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree")
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.
For it is written: "Rejoice, O barren woman who does not bear children; break forth and shout, you who have no birth pains, because the children of the desolate woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband."
Now on the topic of times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you.
