1 To the overseer for the sons of Korah: of instruction. O God, with our ears we heard; our fathers recounted to us the work thou didst in their days, in days of old.
1 For the choir director. A (a)Maskil of the sons of Korah.O God, we have heard with our ears,Our (A)fathers have told usThe (B)work that You did in their days,In the (C)days of old.
1 {To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.} We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
1 For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah.God, we have heard with our ears—our ancestors have told us—the work You accomplished in their days,in days long ago:(A)
1 God, we heard it with our ears; our ancestors told us about what you did in their day a long time ago.
2 Thou didst with thy hand drive out the nations and thou wilt plant them; thou wilt pluck in pieces the people, and thou wilt send them forth.
2 You with Your own hand (D)drove out the nations; Then You (E)planted them; You (F)afflicted the peoples,Then You (G)spread them abroad.
2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
2 With your hand you expelled the nations and established our ancestors. You afflicted nations and cast them out.
3 For by their sword they possessed not the land, and their arm saved them not: for thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy face, for thou didst delight in them.
3 For by their own sword they (H)did not possess the land,And their own arm did not save them,But Your right hand and Your (I)arm and the (J)light of Your presence,For You (K)favored them.
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
3 For they did not take the land by their sword—their arm did not bring them victory—but by Your right hand, Your arm,and the light of Your face, for You were pleased with them.(C)
3 It was not with their sword that they inherited the land, nor did their own arm deliver them. But it was by your power, your strength, and by the light of your face; because you were pleased with them.
5 In thee we will thrust our enemies: in thy name we will tread down those rising up against us.
5 Through You we will (N)push back our adversaries;Through Your name we will (O)trample down those who rise up against us.
5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
5 Through you we will knock down our oppressors; through your name we will tread down those who rise up against us.
10 Thou wilt turn us back from the enemy: and those hating us spoiled for themselves.
10 You cause us to (X)turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us (Y)have taken spoil for themselves.
10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
10 You made us retreat from our oppressors. Our enemies ransacked us.
13 Thou wilt set us a reproach to our neighbors, and a derision and scorn to them round about us.
13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
13 You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors,a source of mockery and ridicule to those around us.(M)
13 You made us a laughing stock to our neighbors, a source of mockery and derision to those around us.
16 From the voice of him reproaching and reviling, from the face of the enemy and avenger.
16 Because of the voice of him who (AH)reproaches and reviles,Because of the presence of the (AI)enemy and the avenger.
16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
16 because of the voice of the one who mocks and reviles, because of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this came to us, and we did not forget thee, and we lied not in thy covenant
17 All this has come upon us, but we have (AJ)not forgotten You,And we have not (AK)dealt falsely with Your covenant.
17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
17 All this came upon us, yet we did not forsake you, and we have not dealt falsely with your covenant;
19 For thou didst crush us in the place of jackals, and thou wilt cover over us with the shadow of death.
19 Yet You have (AN)crushed us in a place of (AO)jackalsAnd covered us with (AP)the shadow of death.
19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
19 Nevertheless, you crushed us in the lair of jackals, and covered us in deep darkness.
22 For, for thee we were killed all the day; we were reckoned as sheep of the slaughter.
22 But (AT)for Your sake we are killed all day long;We are considered as (AU)sheep to be slaughtered.
22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
22 For your sake we are being killed all day long. We are thought of as sheep to be slaughtered.
