But Jesus himself habitually withdrew into solitary places, and there used to pray.

"Whenever a foul spirit is gone out of a man, it roams through waterless places, in search of rest; but when it can find none, it says, 'I will go back to the house which I have left.'

"Woe unto you Pharisee! for you delight in the best seats in the synagogue, and in the salutation in the market-places.

"Beware of the Scribes who like to walk about in long robes, and dote on salutations in the marketplaces, and on securing the front seats in the synagogues and the best places at banquets;

"and there shall be great earthquakes, and, in many places, famines and pestilences; and there shall be terror and great portents from heaven.
