For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its taste, how shall it be seasoned?

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
