This is the book of the generations of Jesus Christ: the son of David, the son also of Abraham.
Jesse begat David the king: David the king begat Solomon of her that was the wife of Uriah:
All the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; And from David unto the captivity of Babylon are fourteen generations; And from the captivity of Babylon unto Christ are also fourteen generations.
While he thus thought, Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: For that which is conceived in her is of the holy ghost.
And as Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him crying, and saying, "O thou son of David, have mercy on us."
He said unto them, "Have ye not read what David did, when he was a hungered, and they also which were with him?
And all the people were amazed, and said, "Is not this the son of David?"
And behold, a woman which was a Canaanite came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, "Have mercy on me Lord, thou son of David, my daughter is piteously vexed with a devil."
And behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried, saying, "Master, the son of David have mercy on us."
And the people rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: But they cried the more, saying, "Have mercy on us, Master, which art the son of David."
Moreover, the people that went before, and they also that came after, cried, saying, "Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."
When the chief priests and scribes saw the marvels that he did; and the children crying in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the son of David"; they disdained,
saying, "What think ye of Christ? Whose son is he?" They said unto him, "The son of David."
He said unto them, "How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
And he said to them, "Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was a hungered both he and they that were with him?
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry and to say, "Jesus, the son of David, have mercy on me."
And many rebuked him, that he should hold his peace. But he cried the more a great deal, "Thou son of David have mercy on me."
Blessed be the kingdom that cometh in the name of him that is Lord of our father David. Hosanna in the highest."
And Jesus answered, and said, teaching in the temple, "How say the scribes, that Christ is the son of David?
For David himself, inspired with the holy ghost, said, 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy foot stool.'
Then David himself calleth him Lord, and by what means is he then his son?" And much people heard him gladly.

He shall be great, and shall be called the son of the highest. And the Lord God shall give unto him the seat of his father David:

And David himself saith in the book of the Psalms, 'The Lord said unto my Lord: Sit on my right hand,
Saith not the scripture that Christ shall come of the seed of David: and out of the town of Bethlehem where David was?"
"Ye men and brethren, this scripture must have needs been fulfilled which the holy ghost, through the mouth of David, spake before of Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus:
For David speaketh of him, 'Aforehand, saw I God always before me: For he is on my righthand, that I should not be moved.
"Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David: For he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre remaineth with us unto his day.
For David is not ascended into heaven, but he said,
which by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, 'Why did the heathen rage and the people imagine vain things?
which tabernacle our fathers received, and brought it in with Joshua into the possession of the gentiles, which gentiles God drave out before the face of our fathers unto the time of David,
And after he had put him down, he set up David to be their king: of whom he gave reported, saying, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, he shall fulfill all my will.'
As concerning that he so raised him up from death, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, 'The holy promises made to David I will give them faithfully to you.'
Howbeit David, after he had in his time fulfilled the will of God, he slept, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption.
'After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David which is fallen down, and that which is fallen in decay of it will I build again and I will set it up,
that make mention of his son, the which was begotten unto him of the seed of David, as pertaining to the flesh:
Even as David describeth the blessedfulness of the man, unto whom God ascribeth righteousness without deeds,
And David saith, "Let their table be made a snare to take them withal, and an occasion to fall, and a reward unto them.
Remember that Jesus Christ, being of the seed of David, rose again from death according to my gospel,
Again he appointeth in David a certain present day after so long a time, saying as it is rehearsed, "This day if ye hear his voice, be not hard hearted."
And what shall I more say? The time would be too short for me to tell of Gideon, of Barach, and of Samson, and of Jephthah. Also of David and Samuel, and of the prophets,
"And write unto the tidings-bringer of the congregation of Philadelphia, 'This saith he that is holy and true, which hath the key of David; which openeth and no man shutteth, and shutteth and no man openeth.
And one of the elders said unto me, "Weep not. Behold, a lion being of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, hath obtained to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof."
