And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he expired.
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
And he said to them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said to him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?
And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God, and all the people:
And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.
And certain of them who were with us, went to the sepulcher, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said to them, Have ye here any thing for food?
And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
And said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
This is he of whom I said, after me cometh a man who is preferred before me; for he was before me.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith to them, What seek ye? They said to him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master) where dwellest thou?
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas; which is, by interpretation, a stone.
And Nathanael said to him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
Nathanael saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
And said to them that sold doves, Take these things hence: make not my Father's house a house of merchandise.
Then answered the Jews, and said to him, What sign showest thou to us, seeing that thou doest these things?
Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
When therefore he had risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this to them: and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken.
The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say to thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things?
And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou didst bear testimony, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Ye yourselves bear me testimony, that I said I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked him, and he would have given thee living water.
Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again:
The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
But he said to them, I have food to eat that ye know not of.
Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?
And said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.
Then said Jesus to him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend: and they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth: and he himself believed, and his whole house.
The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, it is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
Then they asked him, What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Then answered Jesus, and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing by himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for whatever things he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
(And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.)
And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. (Now there was much grass in the place.) So the men sat down in number about five thousand.
When they were satisfied, he said to his disciples, Gather the fragments that remain, that nothing may be lost.
Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus performed, said, This is truly that prophet that should come into the world.
And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied.
Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?
Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst.
But I said to you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.
Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, Doth this offend you?
And he said, Therefore I said to you, that no man can come to me, except it were given to him by my Father.
His brethren therefore said to him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
Then Jesus said to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.
Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, No; but he deceiveth the people.
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who goeth about to kill thee?
Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
Then said Jesus to them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him that sent me.
Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go to the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye will seek me, and will not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, In truth this is the Prophet.
Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Will Christ come out of Galilee?
Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?
They answered and said to him, Art thou also from Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
When Jesus had raised himself, and saw none but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are those thy accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou testifiest concerning thyself; thy testimony is not true.
Jesus answered and said to them, Though I testify concerning myself, yet my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
