And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word tho' in much affliction, yet with joy of the holy Ghost. So that ye became examples to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. For the word of the Lord sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia; but also in every place your faith towards God is spread abroad, so that we have no need to say any thing of it.

For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously. Who Himself bare our sins in his own body on the cross, that we being dead to sins, might live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye are healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now turned unto the shepherd and bishop of your souls.
