And, having been immersed, Jesus went up straightway from the water; and, behold, the heavens were opened; and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, coming upon Him;

The immersion of John??hence was it? from Heaven or from men?" And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From Heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why, then, did ye not believe him?'

John came, who was immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance unto remission of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem, and were being immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

I immersed you in water; but He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit." And it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John into the Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent apart, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon Him.

The immersion of John, was it from Heaven, or from men? Answer Me."

And all the people, having heard, and the tax-collectors, justified God, having been immersed with the immersion of John. But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been immersed by him.

The immersion of John, was it from Heaven, or of men?"

And they asked him, and said to him, "Why, then, do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" John answered them, saying, "I immerse in water: in your midst standeth One Whom ye know not??27 the One coming after me, the latchet of Whose sandal I am not worthy to unloose."

These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.

And I knew Him not; but, that He might be manifested to Israel, for this cause I came immersing in water."

And I knew Him not; but He who sent me to immerse in water, He said to me, 'Upon Whomsoever you shall see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, the Same is He Who immerseth in the Holy Spirit.'

And John also was immersing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there; and they were coming and being immersed.

And He went away again beyond the Jordan unto the place where John was at first immersing; and there He abode.

and I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John, indeed, immersed in water, but ye shall be immersed in the Holy Spirit.'

And He, answering, said, "Elijah, indeed, comes, and will restore all things;

As it has been written in Isaiah the prophet, "Behold, I send My messenger before Thy face, who shall prepare Thy way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.'" John came, who was immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance unto remission of sins. read more.
And there went out to him all the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem, and were being immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, "There cometh after me One Who is mightier than I, the latchet of Whose shoes I am not worthy, stooping down, to loose. I immersed you in water; but He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit."

for he will be great before the Lord; and he will drink no wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. And many of the sons of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God. And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.

"And you also, child, shall be called 'Prophet of the Most High;' for you shall go before the face of the Lord, to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation to His people in remission of their sins, because of the tender compassions of the mercy of our God, wherein the day-spring from on high shall visit us, read more.
to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

The same came for a testimony, that he might testify concerning the Light, that all might believe through him. He was not the Light; but he came, that he might testify concerning the Light.

John testifies concerning Him, and has cried, saying, "This was He of Whom I said, 'He That cometh after me hath become before me, because He was before me;'"

They said therefore, to him, "Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say concerning yourself?" He said, "'I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,'" as said Isaiah the prophet. And they had been sent from among the Pharisees. read more.

He was a lamp that was burning and shining; and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

John having first preached, before His coming, the immersion of repentance to all the people of Israel. And, as John was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do ye suppose me to be? I am not He. But, behold, there cometh One after me, the sandals of Whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.'



Now in those days comes John, the Immerser, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying, "Repent ye for the Kingdom of Heaven has drawn near; for this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah, the prophet, saying, 'A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.'"

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a testimony, that he might testify concerning the Light, that all might believe through him. He was not the Light; but he came, that he might testify concerning the Light.

for God sent not His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world may be saved through Him. He that believes on Him is not judged; he that believes not has been judged already, because he has not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.





And it shall be, that every soul that will not hearken to that Prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'



Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believes on Me, though he die, yet shall he live; and whosoever lives and believes on Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

Now there were journeying with Him great multitudes; and, turning, He said to them, "If any one comes to Me, and hates not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and, further, his own soul also, he cannot be My disciple. And whosoever does not bear his own cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple. read more.
For who of you, wishing to build a tower, does not, first, sitting down, calculate the expense, whether he has enough for its completion? lest, perhaps, having laid a foundation, and not being able to finish it, all who behold begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish!' "Or what king, going on to engage another king in war, does not, sitting down, first take counsel, whether he is able, with ten thousand, to meet him who is coming against him with twenty thousand? And, if not by any means, while he is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he asks conditions of peace. "So, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his own goods, cannot be My disciple.


They said, therefore, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered, and said to them, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him Whom He sent."

While ye have the Light, believe on the Light, that ye may become sons of Light" These things spake Jesus, and, going away, He was hidden from them.

And, behold, one, having come near, said to Him, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" And He said to him, "Why do you question Me concerning the good? One is the Good. But, if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." He says to Him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; read more.
honor your father and your mother; and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man says to Him, "I observed all these things; what yet do I lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven; and come, follow Me."

Jesus heard that they cast him out; and, finding him, He said, "Do you believe on the Son of God?"


And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, "Good Teacher, by doing what shall I inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good, but One??od. You know the commandments, 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not kill,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'" read more.
And he said, "All these I observed from my youth." And Jesus, hearing it said to him, "Yet one thing is lacking to you; sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven, and come, follow Me." And, when he heard these things, he became very sorrowful; for he was exceedingly rich. And Jesus, seeing him, said, "With what difficulty do those having riches enter into the Kingdom of God! for it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." And those hearing it said, "And who can be saved?"

Jesus answered, and said to him, "Verily, verily, I say to you, unless one be born anew, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." Nicodemus says to Him, "How can a man he born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and he born?" Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say to you, unless one be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. read more.
That which has been born of the flesh is flesh: and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said to you, ye must be born anew. The Spirit breatheth where He willeth; and you hear His voice, but know not whence He cometh, or whither He goeth: so is every one who has been born of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered, and said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered, and said to him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and understand not these things? Verily, verily, I say to you, We speak that which We know, and testify to that which We have seen; and ye receive not Our testimony. If I told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how will ye believe, if I tell you Heavenly things?
