Thematic Bible: Unbelief

Thematic Bible

Therefore Jehovah heard and was full of wrath. A fire was kindled against Jacob and anger also mounted against Israel, Because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.

He who has an active faith in him is not judged. He who does not have an active faith has been judged already for he has not had faith in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world. People loved the darkness rather than the light for their works were evil.

Moses said to Jehovah: You brought these people out of Egypt by your power. When the Egyptians hear what you have done to your people, they will tell it to the people who live in this land. These people have already heard that you, Jehovah, are with us, that you appear in plain sight when your cloud stops over us, and that you go before us in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. But if you kill all these people at the same time the nations who have heard these reports about you will say, read more.
Jehovah was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them, so he slaughtered them in the desert. Jehovah, let your power be as great as when you said, Jehovah is patient, forever loving; He forgives wrongdoing and disobedience. He never lets the guilty go unpunished. In fact he punishes children for their parents' sins to the third and fourth generation. By your great love, please forgive these people's sins, as you have forgiven them from the time they left Egypt until now. Jehovah said: I forgive them, as you have asked. But as I live and as the glory of Jehovah fills the whole earth, I solemnly swear that none of the people who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I did in Egypt and in the desert will see the land I promised their ancestors. They have tested me now ten times and refused to obey me. None of those who treat me with contempt will see it! My servant Caleb has a different attitude and has wholeheartedly followed me, I will bring him to the land he already explored. His descendants will possess it. The Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the valleys. Tomorrow you must turn around, go back into the desert. Follow the road that goes to the Red Sea. Then Jehovah said to Moses and Aaron: How long must I put up with this wicked congregation that keeps complaining about me? I have heard the complaints the Israelites are making about me. Therefore tell them: 'As I live, declares Jehovah, I solemnly swear I will do everything to you that you said I would do. Your bodies will drop dead in this desert. All of you who are at least twenty years old, who were registered and listed, and who complained about me will die. I raised my hand and swore an oath to give you this land to live in. But none of you will enter it except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. You said your children would be taken as prisoners of war. Instead, I will bring them into the land you rejected, and they will enjoy it. But your bodies will drop dead in this desert. Your children will be shepherds in the desert for forty years. They will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies dead in the desert. You explored the land for forty days. So for forty years, one year for each day, you will suffer for your sins and know what it means for me to be against you.' I, Jehovah, have spoken. I swear I will do these things to all the people in this whole wicked congregation. For they have joined forces against me. They will meet their end in this desert. Here they will die!' The men Moses sent to explore the land died in front of Jehovah from a plague. They died because they had returned and made the whole community complain about Moses. They spread lies about the land. Of all the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived. Moses told these things to all the Israelites. The people mourned bitterly, as if someone had died.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said: Why were we not able to send it out? He told them: It was because of your lack of faith: Truly I say to you, if you have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move and it will move. Nothing will be impossible to you.

Jehovah sent his messengers and prophets to warn Israel and Judah: Abandon your evil ways and obey my commands. The commandments contained in the Law I gave to your ancestors. I handed them on to you through my servants the prophets. They would not obey. They were stubborn like their ancestors. They did not trust in Jehovah their God. They refused to obey his instructions. They did not keep the covenant he made with their ancestors. They disregarded his warnings. They worshiped worthless idols and became worthless themselves. They followed the customs of the surrounding nations, disobeying Jehovah's command not to imitate them. read more.
They broke all the laws of Jehovah their God. They made two metal bull-calves to worship. They also made an image of the goddess Asherah. Also they worshiped the stars and served the god Baal. They caused their sons and their daughters to go through the fire to be sacrificed. They made use of secret arts and unnatural powers, and gave themselves up to doing evil in the eyes of Jehovah, till they provoked him to anger. Jehovah was very angry with Israel. He removed them from his sight. Only the tribe of Judah kept its place. But even Judah did not obey the commands of Jehovah their God. They were guided by the rules Israel made. So Jehovah would have nothing to do with all the offspring of Israel. He caused trouble for them. He gave them up into the hands of their attackers, till he had sent them away from before his face. He tore Israel from the house of David and made Jeroboam son of Nebat king. Jeroboam drove them away from the laws of Jehovah and made them do a great sin. The children of Israel walked in all the sins Jeroboam committed. They did not depart from these sins. Jehovah removed Israel from his sight as he said he would through all his servants the prophets. Israel was taken away from their land to Assyria, to this day.

Yet they still continued to sin against him. They rebelled against the Most High in the desert. In their heart they put God to the test by asking food according to their desire. Then they spoke against God. They said: Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? read more.
Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed out, and streams were overflowing; Can He give bread also? Will He provide meat for His people? Therefore Jehovah heard and was full of wrath. A fire was kindled against Jacob and anger also mounted against Israel, Because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation. Yet he commanded the clouds above and opened the doors of heaven. He rained down manna upon them to eat and gave them food from heaven. Man did eat the bread of angels. He sent them food in abundance. He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens and by his power he directed the south wind. He rained meat upon them like the dust, even winged fowl like the sand of the seas, Then he let them fall in the midst of their camp, round about their dwellings. So they ate and were well filled, and their desire he gave to them. Before they had satisfied their desire, while their food was in their mouths, The anger of God rose against them and killed some of their stoutest ones, and subdued the choice men of Israel. In spite of all this they still sinned. They did not believe in his wonderful works. He brought their days to an end like a whisper in the wind. He brought their years to an end in terror. When he killed some of them, the rest searched for him. They turned from their sins and eagerly looked for God.

They forgot the God of their salvation, the one who did spectacular things in Egypt, miracles in the land of Ham, and terrifying things at the Red Sea. God said he was going to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, stood in his way to prevent him from exterminating them. read more.

Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself, and come down from the stake! Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down from the stake that we may see and believe him. Those who were impaled with him also mocked him.

The Pharisees came to question him. They were testing him and seeking a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply in his spirit and said: Why does this generation seek a sign? I tell you truly no sign will be given to this generation.

Some of the scribes sitting there reasoned in their hearts: Why does this man speak this way? He blasphemes for only God is the one who can forgive sins. Jesus immediately discerned in his spirit that they reasoned within themselves. He asked them: Why reason these things in your hearts? read more.
Which is easier to say to the sick man your sins are forgiven or take your bed and walk? So you may see that the Son of man has authority to forgive sins on earth, he said to the man: Get up and take your bed, and go to your house.

I know that you are Abraham's seed. Yet you seek to kill me. That is because my word has no place among you. I speak the things that I have seen and heard when I was with my Father. You also do the things that you heard from your father. They answered: Our father is Abraham. Jesus replied: If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. read more.
You seek to kill me. I told you the truth! I heard it from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the works of your father. They said: We were not born of fornication. We have one Father, God! Jesus said: If God were your Father you would love me. I came from God! I have not come from myself. He sent me! Why do you not understand what I say? Can you not hear me? You are from your father [Satan] the Devil (slanderer) (false accuser)! You want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning. He does not stand for the truth. There is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks his own lies. He is a liar and the father of the lie! I tell you the truth and you do not believe me. Which of you convicted me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe me? He that is of God hears the words of God. That is why you do not listen. You are not from God!

Jesus replied: I told you and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness of me. You do not believe because you are not my sheep! My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me. read more.
I give them eternal life. They will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father has given them to me. He is greater than all and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. The Father and I are one (united in purpose).

Jesus answered: Are you a teacher of Israel and you do not understand these things? This is the truth. We speak what we know and witness about what we have seen. But you do not receive our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you did not have faith, how will you have faith if I tell you heavenly things?

Jesus said to them: The light will be with you for a little while. Walk while you have the light, that darkness does not overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light, exert active faith in the light, that you may become sons of light. Jesus said this and then he departed and hid himself from them. Even though he performed many miracles in front of them they did not believe in him. read more.
The word of Isaiah the prophet was fulfilled: Jehovah who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of Jehovah been revealed? (Isaiah 53:1) Isaiah revealed the reason they could not believe: He has blinded their eyes. He hardened their heart. Otherwise they would see with their eyes and perceive with their heart. Then they would turn and I would heal them. Isaiah said these things because he saw and spoke about his glory. Many of the rulers believed in him, although they did not confess their faith because of the Pharisees, for they would be expelled from the synagogue. They loved the glory from men more than the glory from God.

If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me. But if I do them and you do not believe me, believe the works! That way you may know and understand that the Father is with me, and I am with the Father.
