For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

And that which fell among thorns are those who when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection.

The torch is held in low esteem in the thought of him that is prosperous, which was prepared to guard against a slip of the feet.

He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches and who gives to the rich shall surely come to want.

For I became angry against the foolish when I saw the peace of the wicked. Because there is no restraint that would bring about their death, but their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.read more.
Therefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart. Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys. But I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee. Nevertheless I was continually with thee; thou hast apprehended me by my right hand. Thou hast guided me with thy counsel, and afterward thou shalt receive me unto glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire. My flesh and my heart fail; the strength of my heart is that God is my portion for ever. For, behold, those that stray from thee shall perish; thou dost cut off all those that go a whoring from thee. But as for me, to draw near to God is good; I have put my hope in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal;

Why should I fear in the days of adversity when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about? Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him;read more.

And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth or glory, nor the life of thy enemies, neither yet hast asked long life, but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou may judge my people, over whom I have placed thee as king,

For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
