and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

When Jesus went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

Now Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have been with me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."

And Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."

And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it,

Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"

Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had leaned on his breast at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?"

For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.

And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.

"Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I came to this hour.

Give to everyone who asks of you, and from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For he is kind to the ungrateful and evil. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
